2 Timothy 2:14-26

ESV 14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before Godnot to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. NIV 14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. ESV 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. NIV 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. ESV 16 But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, NIV 16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly. ESV 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, NIV 17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, ESV 18 who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some. NIV 18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. ESV 19 But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity." NIV 19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness." ESV 20 Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. NIV 20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. ESV 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. NIV 21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work. ESV 22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. NIV 22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. ESV 23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. NIV 23 Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. ESV 24 And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, NIV 24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. ESV 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, NIV 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, ESV 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will. NIV 26 and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
