Psalms 40:1-6

CJB

NIV

1 For the leader. A psalm of David: I waited patiently for ADONAI, till he turned toward me and heard my cry.
1 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He brought me up from the roaring pit, up from the muddy ooze, and set my feet on a rock, making my footing firm.
2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will look on in awe and put their trust in ADONAI.
3 He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the LORDand put their trust in him.
4 How blessed the man who trusts in ADONAI and does not look to the arrogant or to those who rely on things that are false.
4 Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
5 How much you have done, ADONAI my God! Your wonders and your thoughts toward us -none can compare with you! I would proclaim them, I would speak about them; but there's too much to tell!
5 Many, LORD my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.
6 Sacrifices and grain offerings you don't want; burnt offerings and sin offerings you don't demand. Instead, you have given me open ears;
6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire— but my ears you have opened — burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.
