1 The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
1 The word of the LORD that came to Zephaniah son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, during the reign of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah:
2 "I will utterly consume all things from off the face of the land," saith the LORD.
2 “I will sweep away everything from the face of the earth,” declares the LORD.
3 "I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land," saith the LORD.
3 “I will sweep away both man and beast; I will sweep away the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea— and the idols that cause the wicked to stumble.”“When I destroy all mankind on the face of the earth,” declares the LORD,
4 "I will also stretch out Mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarim with the priests,
4 “I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all who live in Jerusalem. I will destroy every remnant of Baal worship in this place, the very names of the idolatrous priests—
5 and them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops, and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Milcom,
5 those who bow down on the roofs to worship the starry host, those who bow down and swear by the LORDand who also swear by Molek,
6 and them that are turned back from the LORD, and those that have not sought the LORD nor inquired for Him."
6 those who turn back from following the LORDand neither seek the LORD nor inquire of him.”
7 Hold thy peace at the presence of the Lord GOD, for the day of the LORD is at hand. For the LORD hath prepared a sacrifice; He hath bidden His guests.
7 Be silent before the Sovereign LORD, for the day of the LORD is near. The LORD has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated those he has invited.
8 "And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD'S sacrifice, that I will punish the princes and the king's children, and all such as are clothed with strange apparel.
8 “On the day of the LORD’s sacrifice I will punish the officials and the king’s sons and all those clad in foreign clothes.
9 In the same day also will I punish all those that leap on the threshold, who fill their masters' houses with violence and deceit.
9 On that day I will punish all who avoid stepping on the threshold,who fill the temple of their gods with violence and deceit.
10 "And it shall come to pass in that day," saith the LORD, "that there shall be the noise of a cry from the Fish Gate, and a howling from the Second, and a great crashing from the hills.
10 “On that day,” declares the LORD, “a cry will go up from the Fish Gate, wailing from the New Quarter, and a loud crash from the hills.
11 Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all they that bear silver are cut off.
11 Wail, you who live in the market district ; all your merchants will be wiped out, all who trade with silver will be destroyed.
