NKJV 1 Thus says the Lord: "For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime. NIV 1 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Moab, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. Because he burned, as if to lime, the bones of Edom's king, NKJV 2 But I will send a fire upon Moab, And it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth; Moab shall die with tumult, With shouting and trumpet sound. NIV 2 I will send fire upon Moab that will consume the fortresses of Kerioth. Moab will go down in great tumult amid war cries and the blast of the trumpet. NKJV 3 And I will cut off the judge from its midst, And slay all its princes with him," Says the Lord. NIV 3 I will destroy her ruler and kill all her officials with him," says the LORD. NKJV 4 Thus says the Lord: "For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they have despised the law of the Lord, And have not kept His commandments. Their lies lead them astray, Lies which their fathers followed. NIV 4 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Judah, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. Because they have rejected the law of the LORD and have not kept his decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods, the gods their ancestors followed, NKJV 5 But I will send a fire upon Judah, And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem." NIV 5 I will send fire upon Judah that will consume the fortresses of Jerusalem." NKJV 6 Thus says the Lord: "For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, Because they sell the righteous for silver, And the poor for a pair of sandals. NIV 6 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. They sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals. NKJV 7 They pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor, And pervert the way of the humble. A man and his father go in to the same girl, To defile My holy name. NIV 7 They trample on the heads of the poor as upon the dust of the ground and deny justice to the oppressed. Father and son use the same girl and so profane my holy name. NKJV 8 They lie down by every altar on clothes taken in pledge, And drink the wine of the condemned in the house of their god. NIV 8 They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge. In the house of their god they drink wine taken as fines. NKJV 9 "Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them, Whose height was like the height of the cedars, And he was as strong as the oaks; Yet I destroyed his fruit above And his roots beneath. NIV 9 "I destroyed the Amorite before them, though he was tall as the cedars and strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below. NKJV 10 Also it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt, And led you forty years through the wilderness, To possess the land of the Amorite. NIV 10 "I brought you up out of Egypt, and I led you forty years in the desert to give you the land of the Amorites. NKJV 11 I raised up some of your sons as prophets, And some of your young men as Nazirites. Is it not so, O you children of Israel?" Says the Lord. NIV 11 I also raised up prophets from among your sons and Nazirites from among your young men. Is this not true, people of Israel?" declares the LORD. NKJV 12 "But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink, And commanded the prophets saying, 'Do not prophesy!' NIV 12 "But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy. NKJV 13 "Behold, I am weighed down by you, As a cart full of sheaves is weighed down. NIV 13 "Now then, I will crush you as a cart crushes when loaded with grain. NKJV 14 Therefore flight shall perish from the swift, The strong shall not strengthen his power, Nor shall the mighty deliver himself; NIV 14 The swift will not escape, the strong will not muster their strength, and the warrior will not save his life. NKJV 15 He shall not stand who handles the bow, The swift of foot shall not escape, Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself. NIV 15 The archer will not stand his ground, the fleet-footed soldier will not get away, and the horseman will not save his life. NKJV 16 The most courageous men of might Shall flee naked in that day," Says the Lord. NIV 16 Even the bravest warriors will flee naked on that day," declares the LORD.
