Colossians 1

ASV 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, NIV 1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, ASV 2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ [that are] at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father. NIV 2 To the holy and faithful brothers in Christ at Colosse: Grace and peace to you from God our Father. ASV 3 We give thanks to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, NIV 3 We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, ASV 4 having heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have toward all the saints, NIV 4 because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints-- ASV 5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in the heavens, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, NIV 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel ASV 6 which is come unto you; even as it is also in all the world bearing fruit and increasing, as [it doth] in you also, since the day ye heard and knew the grace of God in truth; NIV 6 that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth. ASV 7 even as ye learned of Epaphras our beloved fellow-servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, NIV 7 You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, ASV 8 who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit. NIV 8 and who also told us of your love in the Spirit. ASV 9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard [it], do not cease to pray and make request for you, that ye may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, NIV 9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. ASV 10 to walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; NIV 10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, ASV 11 strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, unto all patience and longsuffering with joy; NIV 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully ASV 12 giving thanks unto the Father, who made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light; NIV 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. ASV 13 who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love; NIV 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, ASV 14 in whom we have our redemption, the forgiveness of our sins: NIV 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. ASV 15 who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; NIV 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. ASV 16 for in him were all things created, in the heavens and upon the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and unto him; NIV 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. ASV 17 and he is before all things, and in him all things consist. NIV 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. ASV 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. NIV 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. ASV 19 For it was the good pleasure [of the Father] that in him should all the fulness dwell; NIV 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, ASV 20 and through him to reconcile all things unto himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross; through him, [I say], whether things upon the earth, or things in the heavens. NIV 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. ASV 21 And you, being in time past alienated and enemies in your mind in your evil works, NIV 21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. ASV 22 yet now hath he reconciled in the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and without blemish and unreproveable before him: NIV 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation-- ASV 23 if so be that ye continue in the faith, grounded and stedfast, and not moved away from the hope of the gospel which ye heard, which was preached in all creation under heaven; whereof I Paul was made a minister. NIV 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant. ASV 24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church; NIV 24 Now I rejoice in what was suffered for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church. ASV 25 whereof I was made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which was given me to you-ward, to fulfil the word of God, NIV 25 I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness-- ASV 26 [even] the mystery which hath been hid for ages and generations: but now hath it been manifested to his saints, NIV 26 the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. ASV 27 to whom God was pleased to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: NIV 27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. ASV 28 whom we proclaim, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ; NIV 28 We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ. ASV 29 whereunto I labor also, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily. NIV 29 To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me.
