Colossians 3

CJB 1 So if you were raised along with the Messiah, then seek the things above, where the Messiah is sitting at the right hand of God. c NIV 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. CJB 2 Focus your minds on the things above, not on things here on earth. NIV 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. CJB 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with the Messiah in God. NIV 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. CJB 4 When the Messiah, who is our life, appears, then you too will appear with him in glory! NIV 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. CJB 5 Therefore, put to death the earthly parts of your nature - sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed (which is a form of idolatry); NIV 5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. CJB 6 for it is because of these things that God's anger is coming on those who disobey him. NIV 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. CJB 7 True enough, you used to practice these things in the life you once lived; NIV 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. CJB 8 but now, put them all away - anger, exasperation, meanness, slander and obscene talk. NIV 8 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. CJB 9 Never lie to one another; because you have stripped away the old self, with its ways, NIV 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices CJB 10 and have put on the new self, which is continually being renewed in fuller and fuller knowledge, closer and closer to the image of its Creator. NIV 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. CJB 11 The new self allows no room for discriminating between Gentile and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, foreigner, savage, slave, free man; on the contrary, in all, the Messiah is everything. NIV 11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. CJB 12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with feelings of compassion and with kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. NIV 12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. CJB 13 Bear with one another; if anyone has a complaint against someone else, forgive him. Indeed, just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must forgive. NIV 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. CJB 14 Above all these, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together perfectly; NIV 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. CJB 15 and let the shalom which comes from the Messiah be your heart's decision-maker, for this is why you were called to be part of a single Body. And be thankful - NIV 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. CJB 16 let the Word of the Messiah, in all its richness, live in you, as you teach and counsel each other in all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude to God in your hearts. NIV 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. CJB 17 That is, everything you do or say, do in the name of the Lord Yeshua, giving thanks through him to God the Father. NIV 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. CJB 18 Wives, subject yourselves to your husbands, as is appropriate in the Lord. NIV 18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. CJB 19 Husbands, love your wives and don't treat them harshly. NIV 19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. CJB 20 Children, obey your parents in everything; for this pleases the Lord. NIV 20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. CJB 21 Fathers, don't irritate your children and make them resentful, or they will become discouraged. NIV 21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. CJB 22 Slaves, obey your human masters in everything, not serving only when they are watching you, to win their favor, but single-heartedly, fearing the Lord. NIV 22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. CJB 23 Whatever work you do, put yourself into it, as those who are serving not merely other people, but the Lord. NIV 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, CJB 24 Remember that as your reward, you will receive the inheritance from the Lord. You are slaving for the Lord, for the Messiah. NIV 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. CJB 25 Don't worry - whoever is doing wrong will be paid in kind for his wrong, and there is no favoritism shown. NIV 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.
