CSB 5 His people have acted corruptly toward Him; this is their defect-they are not His children but a devious and crooked generation. CSB 6 Is this how you repay the Lord, you foolish and senseless people? Isn't He your Father and Creator? Didn't He make you and sustain you? NIV 6 Is this the way you repay the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you? CSB 7 Remember the days of old; consider the years long past. CSB 10 He found him in a desolate land, in a barren, howling wilderness; He surrounded him, cared for him, and guarded him as the pupil of His eye. NIV 10 In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye, CSB 11 He watches over His nest like an eagle and hovers over His young; He spreads His wings, catches him, and lifts him up on His pinions. CSB 12 The Lord alone led him, with no help from a foreign god. NIV 12 The LORD alone led him; no foreign god was with him. CSB 13 He made him ride on the heights of the land and eat the produce of the field. He nourished him with honey from the rock and oil from flintlike rock, NIV 13 He made him ride on the heights of the land and fed him with the fruit of the fields. He nourished him with honey from the rock, and with oil from the flinty crag, CSB 14 cream from the herd and milk from the flock, with the fat of lambs, rams from Bashan, and goats, with the choicest grains of wheat; you drank wine from the finest grapes. NIV 14 with curds and milk from herd and flock and with fattened lambs and goats, with choice rams of Bashan and the finest kernels of wheat. You drank the foaming blood of the grape. CSB 15 Then Jeshurun became fat and rebelled- you became fat, bloated, and gorged. He abandoned the God who made him and scorned the Rock of his salvation. CSB 16 They provoked His jealousy with foreign gods; they enraged Him with detestable practices. NIV 16 They made him jealous with their foreign gods and angered him with their detestable idols. CSB 18 You ignored the Rock who gave you birth; you forgot the God who brought you forth. NIV 18 You deserted the Rock, who fathered you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. CSB 19 When the Lord saw [this], He despised [them], provoked [to anger] by His sons and daughters. NIV 19 The LORD saw this and rejected them because he was angered by his sons and daughters. CSB 20 He said: "I will hide My face from them; I will see what will become of them, for they are a perverse generation- unfaithful children. NIV 20 "I will hide my face from them," he said, "and see what their end will be; for they are a perverse generation, children who are unfaithful. CSB 21 They have provoked My jealousy with [their] so-called gods; they have enraged Me with their worthless idols. So I will provoke their jealousy with an inferior people; I will enrage them with a foolish nation. NIV 21 They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding. CSB 22 For fire has been kindled because of My anger and burns to the depths of Sheol; it devours the land and its produce, and scorches the foundations of the mountains. NIV 22 For a fire has been kindled by my wrath, one that burns to the realm of death below. It will devour the earth and its harvests and set afire the foundations of the mountains. CSB 23 I will pile disasters on them; I will use up My arrows against them. NIV 23 "I will heap calamities upon them and spend my arrows against them. CSB 24 They will be weak from hunger, ravaged by pestilence and bitter plague; I will unleash on them wild beasts with fangs, as well as venomous snakes that slither in the dust. CSB 25 Outside, the sword will take their children, and inside, there will be terror; the young man and the virgin [will be killed], the infant and the gray-haired man. NIV 25 In the street the sword will make them childless; in their homes terror will reign. Young men and young women will perish, infants and gray-haired men. CSB 26 I would have said: I will cut them to pieces and blot out the memory of them from mankind, NIV 26 I said I would scatter them and blot out their memory from mankind, CSB 27 if I had not feared insult from the enemy, [or feared] that these foes might misunderstand and say: Our own hand has prevailed; it wasn't the Lord who did all this." NIV 27 but I dreaded the taunt of the enemy, lest the adversary misunderstand and say, 'Our hand has triumphed; the LORD has not done all this.' " CSB 28 Israel is a nation lacking sense with no understanding at all. NIV 28 They are a nation without sense, there is no discernment in them. CSB 29 If only they were wise, they would figure it out; they would understand their fate. NIV 29 If only they were wise and would understand this and discern what their end will be! CSB 30 How could one man pursue a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the Lord had given them up? In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them." CSB 36 The Lord will indeed vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants when He sees that [their] strength is gone and no one is left-slave or free. NIV 36 The LORD will judge his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free. CSB 37 He will say: "Where are their gods, the 'rock' they found refuge in? NIV 37 He will say: "Now where are their gods, the rock they took refuge in, CSB 38 Who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? NIV 39 "See now that I myself am He! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand. CSB 40 I raise My hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever, NIV 40 I lift my hand to heaven and declare: As surely as I live forever, CSB 41 when I sharpen My flashing sword, and My hand takes hold of judgment, I will take vengeance on My adversaries and repay those who hate Me. NIV 41 when I sharpen my flashing sword and my hand grasps it in judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me. CSB 42 I will make My arrows drunk with blood while My sword devours flesh- the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders." NIV 42 I will make my arrows drunk with blood, while my sword devours flesh: the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders." CSB 43 Rejoice, you nations, over His people, for He will avenge the blood of His servants. He will take vengeance on His adversaries; He will purify His land and His people. NIV 43 Rejoice, O nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants; he will take vengeance on his enemies and make atonement for his land and people. CSB 44 Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and recited all the words of this song in the presence of the people. NIV 44 Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and spoke all the words of this song in the hearing of the people. CSB 45 After Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, NIV 45 When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, CSB 46 he said to them, "Take to heart all these words I am giving as a warning to you today, so that you may command your children to carefully follow all the words of this law. NIV 46 he said to them, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. CSB 47 For they are not meaningless words to you but they are your life, and by them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess." NIV 47 They are not just idle words for you--they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess." CSB 48 On that same day the Lord spoke to Moses, NIV 48 On that same day the LORD told Moses, CSB 49 "Go up Mount Nebo in the Abarim [range] in the land of Moab, across from Jericho, and view the land of Canaan I am giving the Israelites as a possession. NIV 49 "Go up into the Abarim Range to Mount Nebo in Moab, across from Jericho, and view Canaan, the land I am giving the Israelites as their own possession. CSB 50 Then you will die on the mountain that you go up, and you will be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people. NIV 50 There on the mountain that you have climbed you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people. CSB 51 For [both of] you broke faith with Me among the Israelites at the waters of Meribath-kadesh in the Wilderness of Zin by failing to treat Me as holy in their presence. NIV 51 This is because both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites. CSB 52 Although you will view the land from a distance, which I am giving the Israelites, you will not go there." NIV 52 Therefore, you will see the land only from a distance; you will not enter the land I am giving to the people of Israel."
