NAS 1 "Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the LORD your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it, NIV 1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, NAS 2 so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. NIV 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. NAS 3 "O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the LORD , the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. NIV 3 Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you. NAS 4 "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! NIV 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. NAS 5 "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. NIV 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. NAS 6 "These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. NIV 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. NAS 7 " You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. NIV 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. NAS 8 "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead . NIV 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. NAS 9 "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. NIV 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. NAS 10 "Then it shall come about when the LORD your God brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build, NIV 10 When the LORD your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you--a land with large, flourishing cities you did not build, NAS 11 and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are satisfied, NIV 11 houses filled with all kinds of good things you did not provide, wells you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant--then when you eat and are satisfied, NAS 12 then watch yourself, that you do not forget the LORD who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. NIV 12 be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. NAS 13 "You shall fear only the LORD your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name. NIV 13 Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name. NAS 14 "You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, NIV 14 Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you; NAS 15 for the LORD your God in the midst of you is a jealous God; otherwise the anger of the LORD your God will be kindled against you, and He will wipe you off the face of the earth. NIV 15 for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land. NAS 16 "You shall not put the LORD your God to the test, as you tested Him at Massah. NIV 16 Do not test the LORD your God as you did at Massah. NAS 17 "You should diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and His testimonies and His statutes which He has commanded you. NIV 17 Be sure to keep the commands of the LORD your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you. NAS 18 "You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD , that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the LORD swore to give your fathers, NIV 18 Do what is right and good in the LORD's sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers, NAS 19 by driving out all your enemies from before you, as the LORD has spoken. NIV 19 thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the LORD said. NAS 20 "When your son asks you in time to come, saying, 'What do the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments mean which the LORD our God commanded you?' NIV 20 In the future, when your son asks you, "What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?" NAS 21 then you shall say to your son, 'We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the LORD brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand. NIV 21 tell him: "We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. NAS 22 'Moreover, the LORD showed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh and all his household; NIV 22 Before our eyes the LORD sent miraculous signs and wonders--great and terrible--upon Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. NAS 23 He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.' NIV 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land that he promised on oath to our forefathers. NAS 24 "So the LORD commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God for our good always and for our survival, as it is today. NIV 24 The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. NAS 25 "It will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the LORD our God, just as He commanded us. NIV 25 And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness."
