Ephesians 5

CSB 1 Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. NIV 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children CSB 2 And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God. NIV 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. CSB 3 But sexual immorality and any impurity or greed should not even be heard of among you, as is proper for saints. NIV 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. CSB 4 And coarse and foolish talking or crude joking are not suitable, but rather giving thanks. NIV 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. CSB 5 For know and recognize this: no sexually immoral or impure or greedy person, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of the Messiah and of God. NIV 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. CSB 6 Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for because of these things God's wrath is coming on the disobedient. NIV 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. CSB 7 Therefore, do not become their partners. NIV 7 Therefore do not be partners with them. CSB 8 For you were once darkness, but now [you are] light in the Lord. walk as children of light- NIV 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light CSB 9 for the fruit of the light [results] in all goodness, righteousness, and truth- NIV 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) CSB 10 discerning what is pleasing to the Lord. NIV 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. CSB 11 Don't participate in the fruitless works of darkness, but instead, expose them. NIV 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. CSB 12 For it is shameful even to mention what is done by them in secret. NIV 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. CSB 13 Everything exposed by the light is made clear, NIV 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, CSB 14 for what makes everything clear is light. Therefore it is said: Get up, sleeper, and rise up from the dead, and the Messiah will shine on you. NIV 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." CSB 15 Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk-not as unwise people but as wise- NIV 15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, CSB 16 making the most of the time, because the days are evil. NIV 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. CSB 17 So don't be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. NIV 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. CSB 18 And don't get drunk with wine, which [leads to] reckless actions, but be filled with the Spirit: NIV 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. CSB 19 speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music to the Lord in your heart, NIV 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, CSB 20 giving thanks always for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, NIV 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. CSB 21 submitting to one another in the fear of Christ. NIV 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. CSB 22 Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord, NIV 22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. CSB 23 for the husband is head of the wife as also Christ is head of the church. He is the Savior of the body. NIV 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. CSB 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so wives should [submit] to their husbands in everything. NIV 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. CSB 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as also Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her, NIV 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her CSB 26 to make her holy, cleansing her in the washing of water by the word. NIV 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, CSB 27 He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but holy and blameless. NIV 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. CSB 28 In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. NIV 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. CSB 29 For no one ever hates his own flesh, but provides and cares for it, just as Christ does for the church, NIV 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- CSB 30 since we are members of His body. NIV 30 for we are members of his body. CSB 31 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. NIV 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." CSB 32 This mystery is profound, but I am talking about Christ and the church. NIV 32 This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. CSB 33 To sum up, each one of you is to love his wife as himself, and the wife is to respect her husband. NIV 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
