Ephesians 5

NIRV 1 You are the children that God dearly loves. So be just like him. NIV 1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children NIRV 2 Lead a life of love, just as Christ did. He loved us. He gave himself up for us. He was a sweet-smelling offering and sacrifice to God. NIV 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. NIRV 3 There should not be even a hint of sexual sin among you. Don't do anything unclean. And do not always want more and more. Things like that are not what God's holy people should do. NIV 3 But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. NIRV 4 There must not be any unclean speech or foolish talk or dirty jokes. All of them are out of place. Instead, you should give thanks. NIV 4 Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. NIRV 5 Here is what you can be sure of. Those who give themselves over to sexual sins are lost. So are people whose lives are not pure. The same is true of those who always want more and more. People who do those things might as well worship statues of gods. No one who does them will receive a share in the kingdom of Christ and of God. NIV 5 For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. NIRV 6 Don't let anyone fool you with words that don't mean anything. Because of things like that, God is angry with those who don't obey. NIV 6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. NIRV 7 So don't go along with people like that. NIV 7 Therefore do not be partners with them. NIRV 8 At one time you were in the dark. But now you are in the light because of what the Lord has done. Live like children of the light. NIV 8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light NIRV 9 The light produces what is completely good, right and true. NIV 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) NIRV 10 Find out what pleases the Lord. NIV 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. NIRV 11 Have nothing to do with the acts of darkness. They don't produce anything good. Show what they are really like. NIV 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. NIRV 12 It is shameful even to talk about what people who don't obey do in secret. NIV 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. NIRV 13 But everything the light shines on can be seen. NIV 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, NIRV 14 Light makes everything clear. That is why it is said, "Wake up, sleeper. Rise from the dead. Then Christ will shine on you." NIV 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." NIRV 15 So be very careful how you live. Do not live like people who aren't wise. Live like people who are wise. NIV 15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, NIRV 16 Make the most of every opportunity. The days are evil. NIV 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. NIRV 17 So don't be foolish. Instead, understand what the Lord wants. NIV 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. NIRV 18 Don't fill yourself up with wine. Getting drunk will lead to wild living. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit. NIV 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. NIRV 19 Speak to each other with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord. NIV 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, NIRV 20 Always give thanks to God the Father for everything. Give thanks to him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIV 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. NIRV 21 Follow the lead of one another because of your respect for Christ. NIV 21 Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. NIRV 22 Wives, follow the lead of your husbands as you follow the Lord. NIV 22 Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. NIRV 23 The husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the church. The church is Christ's body. He is its Savior. NIV 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. NIRV 24 The church follows the lead of Christ. In the same way, wives should follow the lead of their husbands in everything. NIV 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. NIRV 25 Husbands, love your wives. Love them just as Christ loved the church. He gave himself up for her. NIV 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her NIRV 26 He did it to make her holy. He made her clean by washing her with water and the word. NIV 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, NIRV 27 He did it to bring her to himself as a brightly shining church. He wants a church that has no stain or wrinkle or any other flaw. He wants a church that is holy and without blame. NIV 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. NIRV 28 In the same way, husbands should love their wives. They should love them as they love their own bodies. Any man who loves his wife loves himself. NIV 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. NIRV 29 After all, people have never hated their own bodies. Instead, they feed and care for their bodies. And that is what Christ does for the church. NIV 29 After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church-- NIRV 30 We are parts of his body. NIV 30 for we are members of his body. NIRV 31 Scripture says, "That's why a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife. The two will become one."(Genesis 2:24) NIV 31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." NIRV 32 That is a deep mystery. But I'm talking about Christ and the church. NIV 32 This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. NIRV 33 A husband also must love his wife. He must love her just as he loves himself. And a wife must respect her husband. NIV 33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
