Exodus 15

ESV 1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, "I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. NIV 1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: "I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. The horse and its rider he has hurled into the sea. ESV 2 The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. NIV 2 The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him. ESV 3 The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name. NIV 3 The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name. ESV 4 "Pharaoh's chariots and his host he cast into the sea, and his chosen officers were sunk in the Red Sea. NIV 4 Pharaoh's chariots and his army he has hurled into the sea. The best of Pharaoh's officers are drowned in the Red Sea. ESV 5 The floods covered them; they went down into the depths like a stone. ESV 7 In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble. NIV 7 In the greatness of your majesty you threw down those who opposed you. You unleashed your burning anger; it consumed them like stubble. ESV 8 At the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up; the floods stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea. NIV 8 By the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up. The surging waters stood firm like a wall; the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea. ESV 9 The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword; my hand shall destroy them.' NIV 9 "The enemy boasted, 'I will pursue, I will overtake them. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword and my hand will destroy them.' ESV 10 You blew with your wind; the sea covered them; they sank like lead in the mighty waters. NIV 10 But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters. ESV 11 "Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? ESV 13 "You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode. NIV 13 "In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. ESV 14 The peoples have heard; they tremble; pangs have seized the inhabitants of Philistia. NIV 14 The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia. ESV 15 Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; trembling seizes the leaders of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. NIV 15 The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away; ESV 16 Terror and dread fall upon them; because of the greatness of your arm, they are still as a stone, till your people, O LORD, pass by, till the people pass by whom you have purchased. NIV 16 terror and dread will fall upon them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone-- until your people pass by, O LORD, until the people you bought pass by. ESV 17 You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain, the place, O LORD, which you have made for your abode, the sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have established. NIV 17 You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance-- the place, O LORD, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, your hands established. ESV 18 The LORD will reign forever and ever." NIV 18 The LORD will reign for ever and ever." ESV 19 For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them, but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. NIV 19 When Pharaoh's horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. ESV 20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. NIV 20 Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing. ESV 21 And Miriam sang to them: "Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea." ESV 22 Then Moses made Israel set out from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness and found no water. NIV 22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. ESV 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. NIV 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) ESV 24 And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" NIV 24 So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to drink?" ESV 25 And he cried to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a log, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the LORD made for them a statute and a rule, and there he tested them, NIV 25 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the LORD made a decree and a law for them, and there he tested them. ESV 26 saying, "If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer." NIV 26 He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you." ESV 27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees, and they encamped there by the water. NIV 27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs and seventy palm trees, and they camped there near the water.
