NIRV 1 "Make an altar for burning incense. Make it out of acacia wood. NIV 1 "Make an altar of acacia wood for burning incense. NIRV 2 It must be one foot six inches square and three feet high. Make a horn stick out from each of its upper four corners. NIV 2 It is to be square, a cubit long and a cubit wide, and two cubits high--its horns of one piece with it. NIRV 3 Cover the top, sides and horns with pure gold. Put a strip of gold around it. NIV 3 Overlay the top and all the sides and the horns with pure gold, and make a gold molding around it. NIRV 4 "Make two gold rings for the altar below the strip. Put the rings across from each other. They will hold the poles that are used to carry it. NIV 4 Make two gold rings for the altar below the molding--two on opposite sides--to hold the poles used to carry it. NIRV 5 Make the poles out of acacia wood. Cover them with gold. NIV 5 Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. NIRV 6 "Put the altar in front of the curtain that hangs in front of the ark where the tablets of the covenant are kept. The ark will have a cover. It will be the place where sin is paid for. There I will meet with you. NIV 6 Put the altar in front of the curtain that is before the ark of the Testimony--before the atonement cover that is over the Testimony--where I will meet with you. NIRV 7 "Aaron must burn sweet-smelling incense on the altar. He must do it every morning when he takes care of the lamps. NIV 7 "Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. NIRV 8 He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at sunset. Incense must be burned regularly to me. Do it for all time to come. NIV 8 He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the LORD for the generations to come. NIRV 9 "Do not burn any other incense on the altar. Do not use the altar for burnt offerings or grain offerings. Do not pour drink offerings on it. NIV 9 Do not offer on this altar any other incense or any burnt offering or grain offering, and do not pour a drink offering on it. NIRV 10 "Once a year Aaron must put the blood of a sin offering on its horns to make it pure. He must do it on the day Israel's sin is paid for. Do it for all time to come. The altar is a very holy place to me." NIV 10 Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the LORD." NIRV 11 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, NIV 11 Then the LORD said to Moses, NIRV 12 "When you make a list of the people of Israel and count them, they must pay me for their lives at the time they are counted. Then a plague will not come on them when you count them. NIV 12 "When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the LORD a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them. NIRV 13 "Each one who is counted must pay a fifth of an ounce of silver. It must be weighed out in keeping with the standard weights that are used in the sacred tent. The payment is an offering to me. NIV 13 Each one who crosses over to those already counted is to give a half shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the LORD. NIRV 14 Each one who is counted must be 20 years old or more. He must give an offering to me. NIV 14 All who cross over, those twenty years old or more, are to give an offering to the LORD. NIRV 15 "When you make the offering, rich people must not give more than a fifth of an ounce of silver. And poor people must not give less. The offering you give to me will pay for your lives. NIV 15 The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less when you make the offering to the LORD to atone for your lives. NIRV 16 "Receive the money from the people of Israel. Use it for any purpose in the Tent of Meeting. It will remind the people that they are paying me for their lives." NIV 16 Receive the atonement money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD, making atonement for your lives." NIRV 17 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, NIV 17 Then the LORD said to Moses, NIRV 18 "Make a large bronze bowl for washing. Make a bronze stand to put it on. Place the bowl between the Tent of Meeting and the altar. Put water in it. NIV 18 "Make a bronze basin, with its bronze stand, for washing. Place it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water in it. NIRV 19 "Aaron and his sons must wash their hands and feet with water from it. NIV 19 Aaron and his sons are to wash their hands and feet with water from it. NIRV 20 When they enter the Tent of Meeting, they must wash with water so that they will not die. They will come to the altar to serve me. They will bring an offering that is made to me with fire. NIV 20 Whenever they enter the Tent of Meeting, they shall wash with water so that they will not die. Also, when they approach the altar to minister by presenting an offering made to the LORD by fire, NIRV 21 When they do, they must wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. For all time to come, that will be a law for Aaron and the priests who are in his family line." NIV 21 they shall wash their hands and feet so that they will not die. This is to be a lasting ordinance for Aaron and his descendants for the generations to come." NIRV 22 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. NIV 22 Then the LORD said to Moses, NIRV 23 He said, "Get some fine spices. Get 12 pounds eight ounces of liquid myrrh. Get six pounds four ounces of sweet-smelling cinnamon and the same amount of sweet-smelling cane. NIV 23 "Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of fragrant cane, NIRV 24 Also get 12 pounds eight ounces of cassia. All of the spices must be weighed out in keeping with the standard weights that are used in the sacred tent. Get four quarts of olive oil. NIV 24 500 shekels of cassia--all according to the sanctuary shekel--and a hin of olive oil. NIRV 25 "Have a person who makes perfume mix everything into a sacred anointing oil. It will smell sweet. NIV 25 Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil. NIRV 26 "Then anoint the Tent of Meeting and the ark where the tablets of the covenant are kept. NIV 26 Then use it to anoint the Tent of Meeting, the ark of the Testimony, NIRV 27 Anoint the table for the holy bread and all of its articles. Anoint the lampstand and the things that are used with it. Anoint the altar for burning incense. NIV 27 the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense, NIRV 28 Anoint the altar for burnt offerings and all of its tools. And anoint the large bowl together with its stand. NIV 28 the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand. NIRV 29 You must set them apart so that they will be very holy. Anything that touches them will be holy. NIV 29 You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy. NIRV 30 "Anoint Aaron and his sons. Set them apart so that they can serve me as priests. NIV 30 "Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests. NIRV 31 "Say to the people of Israel, 'This will be my sacred anointing oil for all time to come. NIV 31 Say to the Israelites, 'This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come. NIRV 32 Do not pour it on the bodies of any other men. Do not make any other oil in the same way. It is sacred. So you must think of it as sacred. NIV 32 Do not pour it on men's bodies and do not make any oil with the same formula. It is sacred, and you are to consider it sacred. NIRV 33 Anyone who makes perfume in the same way and puts it on someone who is not a priest must be cut off from his people.' " NIV 33 Whoever makes perfume like it and whoever puts it on anyone other than a priest must be cut off from his people.' " NIRV 34 Then the LORD spoke to Moses. He said, "Get some sweet-smelling spices. Get some gum resin, onycha and galbanum. Also get some pure frankincense. Make sure everything is in equal amounts. NIV 34 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take fragrant spices--gum resin, onycha and galbanum--and pure frankincense, all in equal amounts, NIRV 35 "Have a person who makes perfume mix it all up into a sweet-smelling incense. It must have salt in it. It will be pure and sacred. NIV 35 and make a fragrant blend of incense, the work of a perfumer. It is to be salted and pure and sacred. NIRV 36 Grind some of it into powder. Place it in front of the tablets of the covenant in the Tent of Meeting. There I will meet with you. The incense will be very holy to you. NIV 36 Grind some of it to powder and place it in front of the Testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you. NIRV 37 "Do not make any incense for yourselves in the same way. Think of it as holy to me. NIV 37 Do not make any incense with this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the LORD. NIRV 38 Anyone who makes incense in the same way to enjoy its sweet smell must be cut off from his people." NIV 38 Whoever makes any like it to enjoy its fragrance must be cut off from his people."
