MSG 1 God spoke to Moses: NIV 1 Then the LORD said to Moses: MSG 2 "On the first day of the first month, set up The Dwelling, the Tent of Meeting. NIV 2 "Set up the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the first month. MSG 3 Place the Chest of The Testimony in it and screen the Chest with the curtain. NIV 3 Place the ark of the Testimony in it and shield the ark with the curtain. MSG 4 "Bring in the Table and set it, arranging its Lampstand and lamps. NIV 4 Bring in the table and set out what belongs on it. Then bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps. MSG 5 "Place the Gold Altar of Incense before the Chest of The Testimony and hang the curtain at the door of The Dwelling. NIV 5 Place the gold altar of incense in front of the ark of the Testimony and put the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. MSG 6 "Place the Altar of Whole-Burnt-Offering at the door of The Dwelling, the Tent of Meeting. NIV 6 "Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting; MSG 7 "Place the Washbasin between the Tent of Meeting and the Altar and fill it with water. NIV 7 place the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it. MSG 8 "Set up the Courtyard on all sides and hang the curtain at the entrance to the Courtyard. NIV 8 Set up the courtyard around it and put the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. MSG 9 "Then take the anointing oil and anoint The Dwelling and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings so that it becomes holy. NIV 9 "Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be holy. MSG 10 Anoint the Altar of Whole-Burnt-Offering and all its utensils, consecrating the Altar so that it is completely holy. NIV 10 Then anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy. MSG 11 Anoint the Washbasin and its base: consecrate it. NIV 11 Anoint the basin and its stand and consecrate them. MSG 12 "Finally, bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water. NIV 12 "Bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and wash them with water. MSG 13 Dress Aaron in the sacred vestments. Anoint him. Consecrate him to serve me as priest. NIV 13 Then dress Aaron in the sacred garments, anoint him and consecrate him so he may serve me as priest. MSG 14 Bring his sons and put tunics on them. NIV 14 Bring his sons and dress them in tunics. MSG 15 Anoint them, just as you anointed their father, to serve me as priests. Their anointing will bring them into a perpetual priesthood, down through the generations." NIV 15 Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue for all generations to come." MSG 16 Moses did everything God commanded. He did it all. NIV 16 Moses did everything just as the LORD commanded him. MSG 17 On the first day of the first month of the second year, The Dwelling was set up. NIV 17 So the tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month in the second year. MSG 18 Moses set it up: He laid its bases, erected the frames, placed the crossbars, set the posts, NIV 18 When Moses set up the tabernacle, he put the bases in place, erected the frames, inserted the crossbars and set up the posts. MSG 19 spread the tent over The Dwelling, and put the covering over the tent, just as God had commanded Moses. NIV 19 Then he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering over the tent, as the LORD commanded him. MSG 20 He placed The Testimony in the Chest, inserted the poles for carrying the Chest, and placed the lid, the Atonement-Cover, on it. NIV 20 He took the Testimony and placed it in the ark, attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover over it. MSG 21 He brought the Chest into The Dwelling and set up the curtain, screening off the Chest of The Testimony, just as God had commanded Moses. NIV 21 Then he brought the ark into the tabernacle and hung the shielding curtain and shielded the ark of the Testimony, as the LORD commanded him. MSG 22 He placed the Table in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of The Dwelling, outside the curtain, NIV 22 Moses placed the table in the Tent of Meeting on the north side of the tabernacle outside the curtain MSG 23 and arranged the Bread there before God, just as God had commanded him. NIV 23 and set out the bread on it before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him. MSG 24 He placed the Lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the Table on the south side of The Dwelling NIV 24 He placed the lampstand in the Tent of Meeting opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle MSG 25 and set up the lamps before God, just as God had commanded him. NIV 25 and set up the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD commanded him. MSG 26 Moses placed the Gold Altar in the Tent of Meeting in front of the curtain NIV 26 Moses placed the gold altar in the Tent of Meeting in front of the curtain MSG 27 and burned fragrant incense on it, just as God had commanded him. NIV 27 and burned fragrant incense on it, as the LORD commanded him. MSG 28 He placed the screen at the entrance to The Dwelling. NIV 28 Then he put up the curtain at the entrance to the tabernacle. MSG 29 He set the Altar of Whole-Burnt-Offering at the door of The Dwelling, the Tent of Meeting, and offered up the Whole-Burnt-Offerings and the Grain-Offerings, just as God had commanded Moses. NIV 29 He set the altar of burnt offering near the entrance to the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, and offered on it burnt offerings and grain offerings, as the LORD commanded him. MSG 30 He placed the Washbasin between the Tent of Meeting and the Altar, and filled it with water for washing. NIV 30 He placed the basin between the Tent of Meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing, MSG 31 Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and feet there. NIV 31 and Moses and Aaron and his sons used it to wash their hands and feet. MSG 32 When they entered the Tent of Meeting and when they served at the Altar, they washed, just as God had commanded Moses. NIV 32 They washed whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting or approached the altar, as the LORD commanded Moses. MSG 33 Finally, he erected the Courtyard all around The Dwelling and the Altar, and put up the screen for the Courtyard entrance. Moses finished the work. NIV 33 Then Moses set up the courtyard around the tabernacle and altar and put up the curtain at the entrance to the courtyard. And so Moses finished the work. MSG 34 The Cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the Glory of God filled The Dwelling. NIV 34 Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. MSG 35 Moses couldn't enter the Tent of Meeting because the Cloud was upon it, and the Glory of God filled The Dwelling. NIV 35 Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled upon it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. MSG 36 Whenever the Cloud lifted from The Dwelling, the People of Israel set out on their travels, NIV 36 In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; MSG 37 but if the Cloud did not lift, they wouldn't set out until it did lift. NIV 37 but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out--until the day it lifted. MSG 38 The Cloud of God was over The Dwelling during the day and the fire was in it at night, visible to all the Israelites in all their travels. NIV 38 So the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel during all their travels.
