Exodus 6

CJB 1 ADONAI said to Moshe, "Now you will see what I am going to do to Pharaoh. With a mighty hand he will send them off; with force he will drive them from the land!" NIV 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country." CJB 2 God spoke to Moshe; he said to him, "I am ADONAI. NIV 2 God also said to Moses, "I am the LORD. CJB 3 I appeared to Avraham, Yitz'chak and Ya'akov as El Shaddai, although I did not make myself known to them by my name, Yud-Heh-Vav-Heh [ADONAI]. NIV 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. CJB 4 Also with them I established my covenant to give them the land of Kena'an, the land where they wandered about and lived as foreigners. NIV 4 I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they lived as aliens. CJB 5 Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Isra'el, whom the Egyptians are keeping in slavery; and I have remembered my covenant. NIV 5 Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant. CJB 6 "Therefore, say to the people of Isra'el: 'I am ADONAI. I will free you from the forced labor of the Egyptians, rescue you from their oppression, and redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. NIV 6 "Therefore, say to the Israelites: 'I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. CJB 7 I will take you as my people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am ADONAI your God, who freed you from the forced labor of the Egyptians. NIV 7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. CJB 8 I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Avraham, Yitz'chak and Ya'akov - I will give it to you as your inheritance. I am ADONAI.'" NIV 8 And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD.' " CJB 9 Moshe said this to the people of Isra'el. But they wouldn't listen to him, because they were so discouraged, and their slavery was so cruel. NIV 9 Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and cruel bondage. CJB 10 ADONAI said to Moshe, NIV 10 Then the LORD said to Moses, CJB 11 "Go in; and tell Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to let the people of Isra'el leave his land." NIV 11 "Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country." CJB 12 Moshe said to ADONAI, "Look, the people of Isra'el haven't listened to me; so how will Pharaoh listen to me, poor speaker that I am?" NIV 12 But Moses said to the LORD, "If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips ?" CJB 13 But ADONAI spoke to Moshe and Aharon and gave them orders concerning both the people of Isra'el and Pharaoh, king of Egypt, to bring the people of Isra'el out of the land of Egypt. NIV 13 Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he commanded them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. CJB 14 These were the heads of their families: the sons of Re'uven the firstborn of Isra'el were Hanokh, Pallu, Hetzron and Karmi. These were the families of Re'uven. NIV 14 These were the heads of their families: The sons of Reuben the firstborn son of Israel were Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These were the clans of Reuben. CJB 15 The sons of Shim'on were Y'mu'el, Yamin, Ohad, Yakhin, Tzochar and Sha'ul the son of a Kena'ani woman. These were the families of Shim'on. NIV 15 The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These were the clans of Simeon. CJB 16 These are the names of the sons of Levi with their descendants: Gershon, K'hat and M'rari. Levi lived to be 137 years old. NIV 16 These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived 137 years. CJB 17 The sons of Gershon were Livni and Shim'i, with their families. NIV 17 The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei. CJB 18 The sons of K'hat were'Amram, Yitz'har, Hevron and 'Uzi'el. K'hat lived to be 133 years old. NIV 18 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years. CJB 19 The sons of M'rari were Machli and Mushi. These were the families of Levi with their descendants. NIV 19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of Levi according to their records. CJB 20 'Amram married Yokheved his father's sister, and she bore him Aharon and Moshe. 'Amram lived to be 137 years old. NIV 20 Amram married his father's sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years. CJB 21 The sons of Yitz'har were Korach, Nefeg and Zikhri. NIV 21 The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg and Zicri. CJB 22 The sons of 'Uzi'el were Misha'el, Eltzafan and Sitri. NIV 22 The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri. CJB 23 Aharon married Elisheva daughter of 'Amminadav and sister of Nachshon, and she bore him Nadav, Avihu, El'azar and Itamar. NIV 23 Aaron married Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. CJB 24 The sons of Korach were Asir, Elkanah and Avi'asaf. These were the Korchi families. NIV 24 The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These were the Korahite clans. CJB 25 El'azar the son of Aharon married one of the daughters of Puti'el, and she bore him Pinchas. These were the heads of the families of Levi, family by family. NIV 25 Eleazar son of Aaron married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas. These were the heads of the Levite families, clan by clan. CJB 26 These are the Aharon and Moshe to whom ADONAI said, "Bring the people of Isra'el out of the land of Egypt, division by division," NIV 26 It was this same Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, "Bring the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions." CJB 27 and who told Pharaoh king of Egypt, to let the people of Isra'el leave Egypt. These are the same Moshe and Aharon. NIV 27 They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt about bringing the Israelites out of Egypt. It was the same Moses and Aaron. CJB 28 On the day when ADONAI spoke to Moshe in the land of Egypt, NIV 28 Now when the LORD spoke to Moses in Egypt, CJB 29 he said, "I am ADONAI. Tell Pharaoh, king of Egypt, everything I say to you." NIV 29 he said to him, "I am the LORD. Tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I tell you." CJB 30 Moshe answered ADONAI, "Look, I'm such a poor speaker that Pharaoh won't listen to me." NIV 30 But Moses said to the LORD, "Since I speak with faltering lips, why would Pharaoh listen to me?"
