Exodus 6

NCV 1 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to the king of Egypt. I will use my great power against him, and he will let my people go. Because of my power, he will force them out of his country." NIV 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country." NCV 2 Then God said to Moses, "I am the Lord. NIV 2 God also said to Moses, "I am the LORD. NCV 3 I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by the name God Almighty, but they did not know me by my name, the Lord. NIV 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD I did not make myself known to them. NCV 4 I also made my agreement with them to give them the land of Canaan. They lived in that land, but it was not their own. NIV 4 I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they lived as aliens. NCV 5 Now I have heard the cries of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are treating as slaves, and I remember my agreement. NIV 5 Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant. NCV 6 So tell the people of Israel that I say to them, 'I am the Lord. I will save you from the hard work the Egyptians force you to do. I will make you free, so you will not be slaves to the Egyptians. I will free you by my great power, and I will punish the Egyptians terribly. NIV 6 "Therefore, say to the Israelites: 'I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. NCV 7 I will make you my own people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am the Lord your God, the One who saves you from the hard work the Egyptians force you to do. NIV 7 I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. NCV 8 I will lead you to the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give you that land to own. I am the Lord.'" NIV 8 And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD.' " NCV 9 So Moses told this to the Israelites, but they would not listen to him. They were discouraged, and their slavery was hard. NIV 9 Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and cruel bondage. NCV 10 Then the Lord said to Moses, NIV 10 Then the LORD said to Moses, NCV 11 "Go tell the king of Egypt that he must let the Israelites leave his land." NIV 11 "Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country." NCV 12 But Moses answered, "The Israelites will not listen to me, so surely the king will not listen to me either. I am not a good speaker." NIV 12 But Moses said to the LORD, "If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips ?" NCV 13 But the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them orders about the Israelites and the king of Egypt. He commanded them to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. NIV 13 Now the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he commanded them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. NCV 14 These are the leaders of the families of Israel: Israel's first son, Reuben, had four sons: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. These are the family groups of Reuben. NIV 14 These were the heads of their families: The sons of Reuben the firstborn son of Israel were Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. These were the clans of Reuben. NCV 15 Simeon's sons were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. These are the family groups of Simeon. NIV 15 The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These were the clans of Simeon. NCV 16 Levi lived one hundred thirty-seven years. These are the names of his sons according to their family history: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. NIV 16 These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived 137 years. NCV 17 Gershon had two sons, Libni and Shimei, with their families. NIV 17 The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei. NCV 18 Kohath lived one hundred thirty-three years. The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. NIV 18 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years. NCV 19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These are the family groups of Levi, according to their family history. NIV 19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of Levi according to their records. NCV 20 Amram married his father's sister Jochebed, who gave birth to Aaron and Moses. Amram lived one hundred thirty-seven years. NIV 20 Amram married his father's sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years. NCV 21 Izhar's sons were Korah, Nepheg, and Zicri. NIV 21 The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg and Zicri. NCV 22 Uzziel's sons were Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri. NIV 22 The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri. NCV 23 Aaron married Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab and the sister of Nahshon. Elisheba gave birth to Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. NIV 23 Aaron married Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. NCV 24 The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph. These are the family groups of the Korahites. NIV 24 The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These were the Korahite clans. NCV 25 Eleazar son of Aaron married a daughter of Putiel, and she gave birth to Phinehas. These are the leaders of the family groups of the Levites. NIV 25 Eleazar son of Aaron married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas. These were the heads of the Levite families, clan by clan. NCV 26 This was the Aaron and Moses to whom the Lord said, "Lead the people of Israel out of Egypt by their divisions." NIV 26 It was this same Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, "Bring the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions." NCV 27 Aaron and Moses are the ones who talked to the king of Egypt and told him to let the Israelites leave Egypt. NIV 27 They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt about bringing the Israelites out of Egypt. It was the same Moses and Aaron. NCV 28 The Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt NIV 28 Now when the LORD spoke to Moses in Egypt, NCV 29 and said, "I am the Lord. Tell the king of Egypt everything I tell you." NIV 29 he said to him, "I am the LORD. Tell Pharaoh king of Egypt everything I tell you." NCV 30 But Moses answered, "I am not a good speaker. The king will not listen to me." NIV 30 But Moses said to the LORD, "Since I speak with faltering lips, why would Pharaoh listen to me?"
