Ezekiel 32

WBT 1 And it came to pass in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, in the first [day] of the month, [that] the word of the LORD came to me, saying, NIV 1 In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month on the first day, the word of the LORD came to me: WBT 2 Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him, Thou art like a young lion of the nations, and thou [art] as a whale in the seas: and thou didst come forth with thy rivers, and disturb the waters with thy feet, and render their rivers foul. NIV 2 "Son of man, take up a lament concerning Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him: " 'You are like a lion among the nations; you are like a monster in the seas thrashing about in your streams, churning the water with your feet and muddying the streams. WBT 3 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will therefore spread out my net over thee with a company of many people; and they shall bring thee up in my net. NIV 3 " 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: " 'With a great throng of people I will cast my net over you, and they will haul you up in my net. WBT 4 Then will I leave thee upon the land, and I will cast thee forth upon the open field, and will cause all the fowls of the heaven to remain upon thee, and I will fill the beasts of the whole earth with thee. NIV 4 I will throw you on the land and hurl you on the open field. I will let all the birds of the air settle on you and all the beasts of the earth gorge themselves on you. WBT 5 And I will lay thy flesh upon the mountains, and fill the valleys with thy hight. NIV 5 I will spread your flesh on the mountains and fill the valleys with your remains. WBT 6 I will also water with thy blood the land in which thou swimmest, [even] to the mountains; and the rivers shall be full of thee. NIV 6 I will drench the land with your flowing blood all the way to the mountains, and the ravines will be filled with your flesh. WBT 7 And when I shall extinguish thee, I will cover the heaven, and make the stars thereof dark; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon shall not give her light. NIV 7 When I snuff you out, I will cover the heavens and darken their stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its light. WBT 8 All the bright lights of heaven will I make dark over thee, and set darkness upon thy land, saith the Lord GOD. NIV 8 All the shining lights in the heavens I will darken over you; I will bring darkness over your land, declares the Sovereign LORD. WBT 9 I will also vex the hearts of many people, when I shall bring thy destruction among the nations, into the countries which thou hast not known. NIV 9 I will trouble the hearts of many peoples when I bring about your destruction among the nations, among lands you have not known. WBT 10 Yes, I will make many people amazed at thee, and their kings shall be horribly afraid for thee, when I shall brandish my sword before them; and they shall tremble at [every] moment, every man for his own life, in the day of thy fall. NIV 10 I will cause many peoples to be appalled at you, and their kings will shudder with horror because of you when I brandish my sword before them. On the day of your downfall each of them will tremble every moment for his life. WBT 11 For thus saith the Lord GOD; The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon thee. NIV 11 " 'For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: " 'The sword of the king of Babylon will come against you. WBT 12 By the swords of the mighty will I cause thy multitude to fall, the terrible of the nations, all of them: and they shall lay waste the pomp of Egypt, and all its multitude shall be destroyed. NIV 12 I will cause your hordes to fall by the swords of mighty men-- the most ruthless of all nations. They will shatter the pride of Egypt, and all her hordes will be overthrown. WBT 13 I will destroy also all its beasts from beside the great waters; neither shall the foot of man disturb them any more, nor the hoofs of beasts disturb them. NIV 13 I will destroy all her cattle from beside abundant waters no longer to be stirred by the foot of man or muddied by the hoofs of cattle. WBT 14 Then will I make their waters deep, and cause their rivers to run like oil, saith the Lord GOD. NIV 14 Then I will let her waters settle and make her streams flow like oil, declares the Sovereign LORD. WBT 15 When I shall make the land of Egypt desolate, and the country shall be destitute of that of which it was full, when I shall smite all them that dwell in it, then shall they know that I [am] the LORD. NIV 15 When I make Egypt desolate and strip the land of everything in it, when I strike down all who live there, then they will know that I am the LORD.' WBT 16 This [is] the lamentation with which they shall lament her: the daughters of the nations shall lament her: they shall lament for her, [even] for Egypt, and for all her multitude, saith the Lord GOD. NIV 16 "This is the lament they will chant for her. The daughters of the nations will chant it; for Egypt and all her hordes they will chant it, declares the Sovereign LORD." WBT 17 It came to pass also in the twelfth year, in the fifteenth [day] of the month, [that] the word of the LORD came to me, saying, NIV 17 In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the LORD came to me: WBT 18 Son of man, wail for the multitude of Egypt, and cast them down, [even] her, and the daughters of the famous nations, to the nether parts of the earth, with them that go down into the pit. NIV 18 "Son of man, wail for the hordes of Egypt and consign to the earth below both her and the daughters of mighty nations, with those who go down to the pit. WBT 19 Whom dost thou pass in beauty? go down, and be thou laid with the uncircumcised. NIV 19 Say to them, 'Are you more favored than others? Go down and be laid among the uncircumcised.' WBT 20 They shall fall in the midst of [them that are] slain by the sword: she is delivered to the sword: draw her and all her multitudes. NIV 20 They will fall among those killed by the sword. The sword is drawn; let her be dragged off with all her hordes. WBT 21 The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of the grave with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword. NIV 21 From within the grave the mighty leaders will say of Egypt and her allies, 'They have come down and they lie with the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword.' WBT 22 Asshur [is] there and all her company: his graves [are] about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword: NIV 22 "Assyria is there with her whole army; she is surrounded by the graves of all her slain, all who have fallen by the sword. WBT 23 Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is around her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who caused terror in the land of the living. NIV 23 Their graves are in the depths of the pit and her army lies around her grave. All who had spread terror in the land of the living are slain, fallen by the sword. WBT 24 There [is] Elam and all her multitude around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit. NIV 24 "Elam is there, with all her hordes around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword. All who had spread terror in the land of the living went down uncircumcised to the earth below. They bear their shame with those who go down to the pit. WBT 25 They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves [are] around him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of [them that are] slain. NIV 25 A bed is made for her among the slain, with all her hordes around her grave. All of them are uncircumcised, killed by the sword. Because their terror had spread in the land of the living, they bear their shame with those who go down to the pit; they are laid among the slain. WBT 26 There [is] Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves [are] around him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. NIV 26 "Meshech and Tubal are there, with all their hordes around their graves. All of them are uncircumcised, killed by the sword because they spread their terror in the land of the living. WBT 27 And they shall not lie with the mighty [that are] fallen of the uncircumcised, who are gone down to the grave, with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though [they were] the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. NIV 27 Do they not lie with the other uncircumcised warriors who have fallen, who went down to the grave with their weapons of war, whose swords were placed under their heads? The punishment for their sins rested on their bones, though the terror of these warriors had stalked through the land of the living. WBT 28 Yes, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with [them that are] slain with the sword. NIV 28 "You too, O Pharaoh, will be broken and will lie among the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword. WBT 29 There [is] Edom, her kings, and all her princes, who with their might are laid by [them that were] slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit. NIV 29 "Edom is there, her kings and all her princes; despite their power, they are laid with those killed by the sword. They lie with the uncircumcised, with those who go down to the pit. WBT 30 There [are] the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, who are gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with [them that are] slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit. NIV 30 "All the princes of the north and all the Sidonians are there; they went down with the slain in disgrace despite the terror caused by their power. They lie uncircumcised with those killed by the sword and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit. WBT 31 Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, [even] Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith the Lord GOD. NIV 31 "Pharaoh--he and all his army--will see them and he will be consoled for all his hordes that were killed by the sword, declares the Sovereign LORD. WBT 32 For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with [them that are] slain with the sword, [even] Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD. NIV 32 Although I had him spread terror in the land of the living, Pharaoh and all his hordes will be laid among the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword, declares the Sovereign LORD."
