Ezekiel 44

HNV 1 Then he brought me back by the way of the outer gate of the sanctuary, which looks toward the east; and it was shut. NIV 1 Then the man brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, the one facing east, and it was shut. HNV 2 The LORD said to me, This gate shall be shut; it shall not be opened, neither shall any man enter in by it; for the LORD, the God of Yisra'el, has entered in by it; therefore it shall be shut. NIV 2 The LORD said to me, "This gate is to remain shut. It must not be opened; no one may enter through it. It is to remain shut because the LORD, the God of Israel, has entered through it. HNV 3 As for the prince, he shall sit therein as prince to eat bread before the LORD; he shall enter by the way of the porch of the gate, and shall go out by the way of the same. NIV 3 The prince himself is the only one who may sit inside the gateway to eat in the presence of the LORD. He is to enter by way of the portico of the gateway and go out the same way." HNV 4 Then he brought me by the way of the north gate before the house; and I looked, and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD: and I fell on my face. NIV 4 Then the man brought me by way of the north gate to the front of the temple. I looked and saw the glory of the LORD filling the temple of the LORD, and I fell facedown. HNV 5 The LORD said to me, Son of man, mark well, and see with your eyes, and hear with your ears all that I tell you concerning all the ordinances of the house of the LORD, and all the laws of it; and mark well the entrance of the house, with every exit of the sanctuary. NIV 5 The LORD said to me, "Son of man, look carefully, listen closely and give attention to everything I tell you concerning all the regulations regarding the temple of the LORD. Give attention to the entrance of the temple and all the exits of the sanctuary. HNV 6 You shall tell the rebellious, even to the house of Yisra'el, Thus says the Lord GOD: you house of Yisra'el, let it suffice you of all your abominations, NIV 6 Say to the rebellious house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Enough of your detestable practices, O house of Israel! HNV 7 in that you have brought in foreigners, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, to be in my sanctuary, to profane it, even my house, when you offer my bread, the fat and the blood, and they have broken my covenant, [to add] to all your abominations. NIV 7 In addition to all your other detestable practices, you brought foreigners uncircumcised in heart and flesh into my sanctuary, desecrating my temple while you offered me food, fat and blood, and you broke my covenant. HNV 8 You have not kept the charge of my holy things; but you have set keepers of my charge in my sanctuary for yourselves. NIV 8 Instead of carrying out your duty in regard to my holy things, you put others in charge of my sanctuary. HNV 9 Thus says the Lord GOD, No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any foreigners who are among the children of Yisra'el. NIV 9 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: No foreigner uncircumcised in heart and flesh is to enter my sanctuary, not even the foreigners who live among the Israelites. HNV 10 But the Levites who went far from me, when Yisra'el went astray, who went astray from me after their idols, they shall bear their iniquity. NIV 10 " 'The Levites who went far from me when Israel went astray and who wandered from me after their idols must bear the consequences of their sin. HNV 11 Yet they shall be ministers in my sanctuary, having oversight at the gates of the house, and ministering in the house: they shall kill the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and they shall stand before them to minister to them. NIV 11 They may serve in my sanctuary, having charge of the gates of the temple and serving in it; they may slaughter the burnt offerings and sacrifices for the people and stand before the people and serve them. HNV 12 Because they ministered to them before their idols, and became a stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Yisra'el; therefore have I lifted up my hand against them, says the Lord GOD, and they shall bear their iniquity. NIV 12 But because they served them in the presence of their idols and made the house of Israel fall into sin, therefore I have sworn with uplifted hand that they must bear the consequences of their sin, declares the Sovereign LORD. HNV 13 They shall not come near to me, to execute the office of Kohen to me, nor to come near to any of my holy things, to the things that are most holy; but they shall bear their shame, and their abominations which they have committed. NIV 13 They are not to come near to serve me as priests or come near any of my holy things or my most holy offerings; they must bear the shame of their detestable practices. HNV 14 Yet will I make them keepers of the charge of the house, for all the service of it, and for all that shall be done therein. NIV 14 Yet I will put them in charge of the duties of the temple and all the work that is to be done in it. HNV 15 But the Kohanim the Levites, the sons of Tzadok, who kept the charge of my sanctuary when the children of Yisra'el went astray from me, they shall come near to me to minister to me; and they shall stand before me to offer to me the fat and the blood, says the Lord GOD: NIV 15 " 'But the priests, who are Levites and descendants of Zadok and who faithfully carried out the duties of my sanctuary when the Israelites went astray from me, are to come near to minister before me; they are to stand before me to offer sacrifices of fat and blood, declares the Sovereign LORD. HNV 16 they shall enter into my sanctuary, and they shall come near to my table, to minister to me, and they shall keep my charge. NIV 16 They alone are to enter my sanctuary; they alone are to come near my table to minister before me and perform my service. HNV 17 It shall be that, when they enter in at the gates of the inner court, they shall be clothed with linen garments; and no wool shall come on them, while they minister in the gates of the inner court, and within. NIV 17 " 'When they enter the gates of the inner court, they are to wear linen clothes; they must not wear any woolen garment while ministering at the gates of the inner court or inside the temple. HNV 18 They shall have linen tires on their heads, and shall have linen breeches on their loins; they shall not gird themselves with [anything that causes] sweat. NIV 18 They are to wear linen turbans on their heads and linen undergarments around their waists. They must not wear anything that makes them perspire. HNV 19 When they go forth into the outer court, even into the outer court to the people, they shall put off their garments in which they minister, and lay them in the holy chambers; and they shall put on other garments, that they not sanctify the people with their garments. NIV 19 When they go out into the outer court where the people are, they are to take off the clothes they have been ministering in and are to leave them in the sacred rooms, and put on other clothes, so that they do not consecrate the people by means of their garments. HNV 20 Neither shall they shave their heads, nor allow their locks to grow long; they shall only cut off the hair of their heads. NIV 20 " 'They must not shave their heads or let their hair grow long, but they are to keep the hair of their heads trimmed. HNV 21 Neither shall any of the Kohanim drink wine, when they enter into the inner court. NIV 21 No priest is to drink wine when he enters the inner court. HNV 22 Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her who is put away; but they shall take virgins of the seed of the house of Yisra'el, or a widow who is the widow of a Kohen. NIV 22 They must not marry widows or divorced women; they may marry only virgins of Israelite descent or widows of priests. HNV 23 They shall teach my people the difference between the holy and the common, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean. NIV 23 They are to teach my people the difference between the holy and the common and show them how to distinguish between the unclean and the clean. HNV 24 In a controversy they shall stand to judge; according to my ordinances shall they judge it: and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all my appointed feasts; and they shall make my Shabbatot holy. NIV 24 " 'In any dispute, the priests are to serve as judges and decide it according to my ordinances. They are to keep my laws and my decrees for all my appointed feasts, and they are to keep my Sabbaths holy. HNV 25 They shall go in to no dead person to defile themselves; but for father, or for mother, or for son, or for daughter, for brother, or for sister who has had no husband, they may defile themselves. NIV 25 " 'A priest must not defile himself by going near a dead person; however, if the dead person was his father or mother, son or daughter, brother or unmarried sister, then he may defile himself. HNV 26 After he is cleansed, they shall reckon to him seven days. NIV 26 After he is cleansed, he must wait seven days. HNV 27 In the day that he goes into the sanctuary, into the inner court, to minister in the sanctuary, he shall offer his sin-offering, says the Lord GOD. NIV 27 On the day he goes into the inner court of the sanctuary to minister in the sanctuary, he is to offer a sin offering for himself, declares the Sovereign LORD. HNV 28 They shall have an inheritance: I am their inheritance; and you shall give them no possession in Yisra'el; I am their possession. NIV 28 " 'I am to be the only inheritance the priests have. You are to give them no possession in Israel; I will be their possession. HNV 29 They shall eat the meal-offering, and the sin-offering, and the trespass-offering; and every devoted thing in Yisra'el shall be theirs. NIV 29 They will eat the grain offerings, the sin offerings and the guilt offerings; and everything in Israel devoted to the LORD will belong to them. HNV 30 The first of all the first fruits of every thing, and every offering of everything, of all your offerings, shall be for the Kohen: you shall also give to the Kohanim the first of your dough, to cause a blessing to rest on your house. NIV 30 The best of all the firstfruits and of all your special gifts will belong to the priests. You are to give them the first portion of your ground meal so that a blessing may rest on your household. HNV 31 The Kohanim shall not eat of anything that dies of itself, or is torn, whether it be bird or animal. NIV 31 The priests must not eat anything, bird or animal, found dead or torn by wild animals.
