Galatians 1

LEB 1 Paul, an apostle not from men nor by men but through Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised him from the dead, NIV 1 Paul, an apostle--sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead-- LEB 2 and all the brothers with me, to the churches of Galatia. NIV 2 and all the brothers with me, To the churches in Galatia: LEB 3 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, NIV 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, LEB 4 who gave himself for our sins in order to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, NIV 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, LEB 5 to whom [be] the glory forever and ever. Amen. NIV 5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. LEB 6 I am astonished that you are turning away so quickly from the one who called you by the grace of Christ to a different gospel, NIV 6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel-- LEB 7 not that [there] is a different [gospel], except there are some who are disturbing you and wanting to distort the gospel of Christ. NIV 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. LEB 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should proclaim a gospel to you contrary to what we proclaimed to you, let him be accursed! NIV 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! LEB 9 As we said before, and now I say again, if anyone is proclaiming a gospel [to] you contrary to what you have received, let him be accursed! NIV 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! LEB 10 For am I now making an appeal to people or [to] God? Or am I seeking to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ. NIV 10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. LEB 11 For I make known to you, brothers, the gospel that has been proclaimed by me, that it is not {of human origin}. NIV 11 I want you to know, brothers, that the gospel I preached is not something that man made up. LEB 12 For neither did I receive it from man, nor was I taught [it], but [I received it] through a revelation of Jesus Christ. NIV 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ. LEB 13 For you have heard about my former way of life in Judaism, that to an extraordinary degree I was persecuting the church of God, and trying to destroy it, NIV 13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. LEB 14 and was progressing in Judaism beyond many contemporaries in my nation, [because] I was a far more zealous adherent of the traditions handed down by my forefathers. NIV 14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many Jews of my own age and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. LEB 15 But when the one who set me apart from my mother's womb and called [me] by his grace was pleased NIV 15 But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased LEB 16 to reveal his Son in me in order that I would proclaim the gospel [about] him among the Gentiles, immediately I did not consult with flesh and blood, NIV 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man, LEB 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those [who were] apostles before me, but I went away to Arabia and I returned again to Damascus. NIV 17 nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus. LEB 18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to become acquainted with Cephas, and I stayed with him fifteen days, NIV 18 Then after three years, I went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter and stayed with him fifteen days. LEB 19 but I did not see [any] others of the apostles except James, the brother of the Lord. NIV 19 I saw none of the other apostles--only James, the Lord's brother. LEB 20 (Now [the things] which I am writing to you, behold, [I assure you] before God that I am not lying.) NIV 20 I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie. LEB 21 Then I came to the regions of Syria and of Cilicia, NIV 21 Later I went to Syria and Cilicia. LEB 22 but I was unknown {in person} to the churches of Judea [that are] in Christ, NIV 22 I was personally unknown to the churches of Judea that are in Christ. LEB 23 and they were only hearing, "The one formerly persecuting us is now proclaiming the faith that formerly he was attempting to destroy," NIV 23 They only heard the report: "The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy." LEB 24 and they were glorifying God because of me. NIV 24 And they praised God because of me.
