Galatians 5

CJB 1 What the Messiah has freed us for is freedom! Therefore, stand firm, and don't let yourselves be tied up again to a yoke of slavery. NIV 1 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. CJB 2 Mark my words - I, Sha'ul, tell you that if you undergo b'rit-milah the Messiah will be of no advantage to you at all! NIV 2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. CJB 3 Again, I warn you: any man who undergoes b'rit-milah is obligated to observe the entire Torah! NIV 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. CJB 4 You who are trying to be declared righteous by God through legalism have severed yourselves from the Messiah! You have fallen away from God's grace! NIV 4 You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. CJB 5 For it is by the power of the Spirit, who works in us because we trust and are faithful, that we confidently expect our hope of attaining righteousness to be fulfilled. NIV 5 But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. CJB 6 When we are united with the Messiah Yeshua, neither being circumcised nor being uncircumcised matters; what matters is trusting faithfulness expressing itself through love. NIV 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. CJB 7 You were running the race well; who has stopped you from following the truth? NIV 7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? CJB 8 Whatever means of persuasion he used was not from the One who calls you. NIV 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. CJB 9 "It takes only a little hametz to leaven the whole batch of dough." NIV 9 "A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough." CJB 10 I am confident that since you are united with the Lord, you will take no other view; and I am confident that the one who has been disturbing you, whoever he may be, will have to bear his punishment. NIV 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be. CJB 11 And as for me, brothers, if I am still preaching that circumcision is necessary, why am I still being persecuted? If that were the case, my preaching about the execution-stake would cause no offense whatever. NIV 11 Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. CJB 12 I wish the people who are bothering you would go the whole way and castrate themselves! NIV 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves! CJB 13 For, brothers, you were called to be free. Only do not let that freedom become an excuse for allowing your old nature to have its way. Instead, serve one another in love. NIV 13 You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. CJB 14 For the whole of the Torah is summed up in this one sentence: "Love your neighbor as yourself";k NIV 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." CJB 15 but if you go on snapping at each other and tearing each other to pieces, watch out, or you will be destroyed by each other! NIV 15 If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. CJB 16 What I am saying is this: run your lives by the Spirit. Then you will not do what your old nature wants. NIV 16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. CJB 17 For the old nature wants what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit wants what is contrary to the old nature. These oppose each other, so that you find yourselves unable to carry out your good intentions. NIV 17 For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. CJB 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, then you are not in subjection to the system that results from perverting the Torah into legalism. NIV 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. CJB 19 And it is perfectly evident what the old nature does. It expresses itself in sexual immorality, impurity and indecency; NIV 19 The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; CJB 20 involvement with the occult and with drugs; in feuding, fighting, becoming jealous and getting angry; in selfish ambition, factionalism, intrigue NIV 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions CJB 21 and envy; in drunkenness, orgies and things like these. I warn you now as I have warned you before: those who do such things will have no share in the Kingdom of God! NIV 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. CJB 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, NIV 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, CJB 23 humility, self control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things. NIV 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. CJB 24 Moreover, those who belong to the Messiah Yeshua have put their old nature to death on the stake, along with its passions and desires. NIV 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. CJB 25 Since it is through the Spirit that we have Life, let it also be through the Spirit that we order our lives day by day. NIV 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. CJB 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. NIV 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
