Genesis 1

YLT 1 In the beginning of God's preparing the heavens and the earth -- NIV 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. YLT 2 the earth hath existed waste and void, and darkness [is] on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God fluttering on the face of the waters, NIV 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. YLT 3 and God saith, `Let light be;' and light is. NIV 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. YLT 4 And God seeth the light that [it is] good, and God separateth between the light and the darkness, NIV 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. YLT 5 and God calleth to the light `Day,' and to the darkness He hath called `Night;' and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day one. NIV 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning--the first day. YLT 6 And God saith, `Let an expanse be in the midst of the waters, and let it be separating between waters and waters.' NIV 6 And God said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water." YLT 7 And God maketh the expanse, and it separateth between the waters which [are] under the expanse, and the waters which [are] above the expanse: and it is so. NIV 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. YLT 8 And God calleth to the expanse `Heavens;' and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day second. NIV 8 God called the expanse "sky." And there was evening, and there was morning--the second day. YLT 9 And God saith, `Let the waters under the heavens be collected unto one place, and let the dry land be seen:' and it is so. NIV 9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so. YLT 10 And God calleth to the dry land `Earth,' and to the collection of the waters He hath called `Seas;' and God seeth that [it is] good. NIV 10 God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." And God saw that it was good. YLT 11 And God saith, `Let the earth yield tender grass, herb sowing seed, fruit-tree (whose seed [is] in itself) making fruit after its kind, on the earth:' and it is so. NIV 11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. YLT 12 And the earth bringeth forth tender grass, herb sowing seed after its kind, and tree making fruit (whose seed [is] in itself) after its kind; and God seeth that [it is] good; NIV 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. YLT 13 and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day third. NIV 13 And there was evening, and there was morning--the third day. YLT 14 And God saith, `Let luminaries be in the expanse of the heavens, to make a separation between the day and the night, then they have been for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years, NIV 14 And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, YLT 15 and they have been for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth:' and it is so. NIV 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. YLT 16 And God maketh the two great luminaries, the great luminary for the rule of the day, and the small luminary -- and the stars -- for the rule of the night; NIV 16 God made two great lights--the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. YLT 17 and God giveth them in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth, NIV 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, YLT 18 and to rule over day and over night, and to make a separation between the light and the darkness; and God seeth that [it is] good; NIV 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. YLT 19 and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day fourth. NIV 19 And there was evening, and there was morning--the fourth day. YLT 20 And God saith, `Let the waters teem with the teeming living creature, and fowl let fly on the earth on the face of the expanse of the heavens.' NIV 20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." YLT 21 And God prepareth the great monsters, and every living creature that is creeping, which the waters have teemed with, after their kind, and every fowl with wing, after its kind, and God seeth that [it is] good. NIV 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. YLT 22 And God blesseth them, saying, `Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and the fowl let multiply in the earth:' NIV 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." YLT 23 and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day fifth. NIV 23 And there was evening, and there was morning--the fifth day. YLT 24 And God saith, `Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind:' and it is so. NIV 24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. YLT 25 And God maketh the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, and God seeth that [it is] good. NIV 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. YLT 26 And God saith, `Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that is creeping on the earth.' NIV 26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." YLT 27 And God prepareth the man in His image; in the image of God He prepared him, a male and a female He prepared them. NIV 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. YLT 28 And God blesseth them, and God saith to them, `Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over every living thing that is creeping upon the earth.' NIV 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground." YLT 29 And God saith, `Lo, I have given to you every herb sowing seed, which [is] upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in which [is] the fruit of a tree sowing seed, to you it is for food; NIV 29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. YLT 30 and to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the heavens, and to every creeping thing on the earth, in which [is] breath of life, every green herb [is] for food:' and it is so. NIV 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground--everything that has the breath of life in it--I give every green plant for food." And it was so. YLT 31 And God seeth all that He hath done, and lo, very good; and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day the sixth. NIV 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning--the sixth day.
