Genesis 10

CSB 1 These are the family records of Noah's sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They also had sons after the deluge. NIV 1 This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah's sons, who themselves had sons after the flood. CSB 2 Japheth's sons: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. NIV 2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. CSB 3 Gomer's sons: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. NIV 3 The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath and Togarmah. CSB 4 And Javan's sons: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. NIV 4 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittim and the Rodanim. CSB 5 The coastland peoples spread out into their lands. These are [Japheth's sons] by their clans, in their nations. Each [group] had its own language. NIV 5 (From these the maritime peoples spread out into their territories by their clans within their nations, each with its own language.) CSB 6 Ham's sons: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. NIV 6 The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put and Canaan. CSB 7 Cush's sons: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And Raamah's sons: Sheba and Dedan. NIV 7 The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. CSB 8 Cush fathered Nimrod, who was the first powerful man on earth. NIV 8 Cush was the father of Nimrod, who grew to be a mighty warrior on the earth. CSB 9 He was a powerful hunter in the sight of the Lord. That is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a powerful hunter in the sight of the Lord." NIV 9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, "Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD." CSB 10 His kingdom started with Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. NIV 10 The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad and Calneh, in Shinar. CSB 11 From that land he went to Assyria and built Nineveh, Rehoboth-ir, Calah, NIV 11 From that land he went to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah CSB 12 and Resen, between Nineveh and the great city Calah. NIV 12 and Resen, which is between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. CSB 13 Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, NIV 13 Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites, CSB 14 Pathrusim, Casluhim (the Philistines came from them), and Caphtorim. NIV 14 Pathrusites, Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came) and Caphtorites. CSB 15 Canaan fathered Sidon his firstborn, and the Hittites, NIV 15 Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites, CSB 16 the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, NIV 16 Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites, CSB 17 the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, NIV 17 Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, CSB 18 the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterwards the Canaanite clans scattered. NIV 18 Arvadites, Zemarites and Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans scattered CSB 19 The Canaanite border went from Sidon going toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and going toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. NIV 19 and the borders of Canaan reached from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. CSB 20 These are Ham's sons, by their clans, according to their languages, in their own lands and their nations. NIV 20 These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations. CSB 21 And Shem, Japheth's older brother, also had children. Shem was the father of all the children of Eber. NIV 21 Sons were also born to Shem, whose older brother was Japheth; Shem was the ancestor of all the sons of Eber. CSB 22 Shem's sons were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram. NIV 22 The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram. CSB 23 Aram's sons: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. NIV 23 The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether and Meshech. CSB 24 Arpachshad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. NIV 24 Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah the father of Eber. CSB 25 Eber had two sons. One was named Peleg, for during his days the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan. NIV 25 Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his time the earth was divided; his brother was named Joktan. CSB 26 And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, NIV 26 Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, CSB 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, NIV 27 Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, CSB 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba, NIV 28 Obal, Abimael, Sheba, CSB 29 Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan's sons. NIV 29 Ophir, Havilah and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan. CSB 30 Their settlements extended from Mesha to Sephar, the eastern hill country. NIV 30 The region where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar, in the eastern hill country. CSB 31 These are Shem's sons by their clans, according to their languages, in their lands and their nations. NIV 31 These are the sons of Shem by their clans and languages, in their territories and nations. CSB 32 These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their family records, in their nations. The nations on earth spread out from these after the flood. NIV 32 These are the clans of Noah's sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood.
