Genesis 13

DBY 1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, towards the south. NIV 1 So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, with his wife and everything he had, and Lot went with him. DBY 2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. NIV 2 Abram had become very wealthy in livestock and in silver and gold. DBY 3 And he went on his journeys from the south as far as Bethel; as far as the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai; NIV 3 From the Negev he went from place to place until he came to Bethel, to the place between Bethel and Ai where his tent had been earlier DBY 4 to the place of the altar that he had made there at the first. And there Abram called on the name of Jehovah. NIV 4 and where he had first built an altar. There Abram called on the name of the LORD. DBY 5 And Lot also who went with Abram had flocks, and herds, and tents. NIV 5 Now Lot, who was moving about with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. DBY 6 And the land could not support them, that they might dwell together, for their property was great; and they could not dwell together. NIV 6 But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together. DBY 7 And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were dwelling then in the land. NIV 7 And quarreling arose between Abram's herdsmen and the herdsmen of Lot. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living in the land at that time. DBY 8 And Abram said to Lot, I pray thee let there be no contention between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen, for we are brethren. NIV 8 So Abram said to Lot, "Let's not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers. DBY 9 Is not the whole land before thee? Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if to the left, then I will take the right; and if to the right, then I will take the left. NIV 9 Is not the whole land before you? Let's part company. If you go to the left, I'll go to the right; if you go to the right, I'll go to the left." DBY 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of the Jordan that it was thoroughly watered, before Jehovah had destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah; as the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as one goes to Zoar. NIV 10 Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.) DBY 11 And Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan; and Lot went toward the east. And they separated the one from the other: NIV 11 So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company: DBY 12 Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan; and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain, and pitched tents as far as Sodom. NIV 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. DBY 13 And the people of Sodom were wicked, and great sinners before Jehovah. NIV 13 Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD. DBY 14 And Jehovah said to Abram, after that Lot had separated himself from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward; NIV 14 The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. DBY 15 for all the land that thou seest will I give to thee, and to thy seed for ever. NIV 15 All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. DBY 16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth, so that if any one can number the dust of the earth, thy seed also will be numbered. NIV 16 I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. DBY 17 Arise, walk through the land according to the length of it and according to the breadth of it; for I will give it to thee. NIV 17 Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you." DBY 18 Then Abram moved [his] tents, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron. And he built there an altar to Jehovah. NIV 18 So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.
