It will be their possession forever, and I will be their God.” NIV 8 The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God." NLT 9 Then God said to Abraham, “Your responsibility is to obey the terms of the covenant. You and all your descendants have this continual responsibility. NLT 11 You must cut off the flesh of your foreskin as a sign of the covenant between me and you. NIV 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. NLT 12 From generation to generation, every male child must be circumcised on the eighth day after his birth. This applies not only to members of your family but also to the servants born in your household and the foreign-born servants whom you have purchased. NIV 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner--those who are not your offspring. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. Yes, I will bless her richly, and she will become the mother of many nations. Kings of nations will be among her descendants.” NIV 16 I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her." NLT 17 Then Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. “How could I become a father at the age of 100?” he thought. “And how can Sarah have a baby when she is ninety years old?” NIV 17 Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?" NLT 18 So Abraham said to God, “May Ishmael live under your special blessing!” NIV 18 And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!" NLT 19 But God replied, “No—Sarah, your wife, will give birth to a son for you. You will name him Isaac, and I will confirm my covenant with him and his descendants as an everlasting covenant. NIV 19 Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. NLT 20 As for Ishmael, I will bless him also, just as you have asked. I will make him extremely fruitful and multiply his descendants. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. NIV 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. NLT 21 But my covenant will be confirmed with Isaac, who will be born to you and Sarah about this time next year.” NIV 21 But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year."
