HNV 1 Now this is the history of the generations of Esav (the same is Edom). NIV 1 This is the account of Esau (that is, Edom). HNV 2 Esav took his wives from the daughters of Kana`an: `Adah the daughter of Elon, the Hittite; and Oholivamah the daughter of `Anah, the daughter of Tziv`on, the Hivvi; NIV 2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite-- HNV 3 and Basemat, Yishma'el's daughter, sister of Nevayot. NIV 3 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth. HNV 4 `Adah bore to Esav Elifaz. Basemat bore Re`u'el. NIV 4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, HNV 5 Oholivamah bore Ye`ush, Ya`lam, and Korach. These are the sons of Esav, who were born to him in the land of Kana`an. NIV 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan. HNV 6 Esav took his wives, his sons, his daughters, and all the members of his household, with his cattle, all his animals, and all his possessions, which he had gathered in the land of Kana`an, and went into a land away from his brother Ya`akov. NIV 6 Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all the members of his household, as well as his livestock and all his other animals and all the goods he had acquired in Canaan, and moved to a land some distance from his brother Jacob. HNV 7 For their substance was too great for them to dwell together, and the land of their travels couldn't bear them because of their cattle. NIV 7 Their possessions were too great for them to remain together; the land where they were staying could not support them both because of their livestock. HNV 8 Esav lived in the hill country of Se`ir. Esav is Edom. NIV 8 So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the hill country of Seir. HNV 10 these are the names of Esav's sons: Elifaz, the son of `Adah, the wife of Esav; and Re`u'el, the son of Basemat, the wife of Esav. NIV 10 These are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz, the son of Esau's wife Adah, and Reuel, the son of Esau's wife Basemath. HNV 11 The sons of Elifaz were Teman, Omar, Tzefo, and Ga`tam, and Kenaz. NIV 11 The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz. HNV 12 Timna was concubine to Elifaz, Esav's son; and she bore to Elifaz `Amalek. These are the sons of `Adah, Esav's wife. NIV 12 Esau's son Eliphaz also had a concubine named Timna, who bore him Amalek. These were grandsons of Esau's wife Adah. HNV 13 These are the sons of Re`u'el: Nachat, Zerach, Shammah, and Mizzah. These were the sons of Basemat, Esav's wife. NIV 13 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath. HNV 14 These were the sons of Oholivamah, the daughter of `Anah, the daughter of Tziv`on, Esav's wife: she bore to Esav Ye`ush, Ya`lam, and Korach. NIV 14 The sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon, whom she bore to Esau: Jeush, Jalam and Korah. NIV 17 The sons of Esau's son Reuel: Chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in Edom; they were grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath. HNV 18 These are the sons of Oholivamah, Esav's wife: chief Ye`ush, chief Ya`lam, chief Korach: these are the chiefs who came of Oholivamah the daughter of `Anah, Esav's wife. NIV 18 The sons of Esau's wife Oholibamah: Chiefs Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the chiefs descended from Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah. These are the chiefs who came of the Hori, the children of Se`ir in the land of Edom. NIV 21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These sons of Seir in Edom were Horite chiefs. HNV 22 The children of Lotan were Hori and Heman. Lotan's sister was Timna. NIV 22 The sons of Lotan: Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan's sister. HNV 23 These are the children of Shoval: Alvan, Manachat, `Eval, Shefo, and Onam. NIV 23 The sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam. HNV 24 These are the children of Tziv`on: Ayah and `Anah. This is `Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness, as he fed the donkeys of Tziv`on his father. NIV 24 The sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah. This is the Anah who discovered the hot springs in the desert while he was grazing the donkeys of his father Zibeon. HNV 25 These are the children of `Anah: Dishon and Oholivamah, the daughter of `Anah. NIV 25 The children of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah daughter of Anah. HNV 26 These are the children of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Yitran, and Keran. NIV 26 The sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran and Keran. HNV 27 These are the children of Etzer: Bilhan, Za`avan, and `Akan. NIV 27 The sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan. HNV 28 These are the children of Dishan: `Utz and Aran. HNV 29 These are the chiefs who came of the Hori: chief Lotan, chief Shoval, chief Tziv`on, chief `Anah, NIV 29 These were the Horite chiefs: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, HNV 30 chief Dishon, chief Etzer, and chief Dishan: these are the chiefs who came of the Hori, according to their chiefs in the land of Se`ir. NIV 30 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan. These were the Horite chiefs, according to their divisions, in the land of Seir. HNV 31 These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the children of Yisra'el. NIV 31 These were the kings who reigned in Edom before any Israelite king reigned: HNV 32 Bela, the son of Be'or, reigned in Edom. The name of his city was Dinhava. NIV 32 Bela son of Beor became king of Edom. His city was named Dinhabah. HNV 33 Bela died, and Yovav, the son of Zerach of Botzrah, reigned in his place. NIV 33 When Bela died, Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah succeeded him as king. HNV 34 Yovav died, and Husham of the land of the Temani reigned in his place. NIV 34 When Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king. HNV 35 Husham died, and Hadad, the son of Bedad, who struck Midyan in the field of Mo'av, reigned in his place. The name of his city was `Avit. NIV 35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith. HNV 36 Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. NIV 36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king. HNV 37 Samlah died, and Sha'ul of Rechovot by the river, reigned in his place. NIV 37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king. HNV 38 Sha'ul died, and Ba`al-Hanan, the son of `Akhbor reigned in his place. NIV 38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Acbor succeeded him as king. HNV 39 Ba`al-Hanan the son of `Akhbor died, and Hadar reigned in his place. The name of his city was Pau. His wife's name was Mehetav'el, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahav. NIV 39 When Baal-Hanan son of Acbor died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife's name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. HNV 40 These are the names of the chiefs who came from Esav, according to their families, after their places, and by their names: chief Timna, chief `Alvah, chief Yetet, NIV 40 These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, HNV 41 chief Oholivamah, chief Elah, chief Pinon, NIV 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, HNV 42 chief Kenaz, chief Teman, chief Mivtzar, NIV 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, HNV 43 chief Magdi'el, and chief `Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession. This is Esav, the father of the Edom. NIV 43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This was Esau the father of the Edomites.
