Genesis 36

NLT 1 This is the history of the descendants of Esau (also known as Edom). NIV 1 This is the account of Esau (that is, Edom). NLT 2 Esau married two young women from Canaan: Adah, the daughter of Elon the Hittite; and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite. NIV 2 Esau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite-- NLT 3 He also married his cousin Basemath, who was the daughter of Ishmael and the sister of Nebaioth. NIV 3 also Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth. NLT 4 Esau and Adah had a son named Eliphaz. Esau and Basemath had a son named Reuel. NIV 4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel, NLT 5 Esau and Oholibamah had sons named Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. All these sons were born to Esau in the land of Canaan. NIV 5 and Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau, who were born to him in Canaan. NLT 6 Then Esau took his wives, children, household servants, cattle, and flocks -- all the wealth he had gained in the land of Canaan -- and moved away from his brother, Jacob. These were the chiefs descended from Reuel in Edom; they were grandsons of Esau's wife Basemath. NLT 18 The sons of Esau and his wife Oholibamah became the leaders of the clans of Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the clans descended from Esau's wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah. He was the one who destroyed the Midianite army in the land of Moab. NIV 35 When Husham died, Hadad son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king. His city was named Avith. NLT 36 When Hadad died, Samlah from the city of Masrekah became king. NIV 36 When Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king. NLT 37 When Samlah died, Shaul from the city of Rehoboth on the Euphrates River became king. NIV 37 When Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king. NLT 38 When Shaul died, Baal-hanan son of Acbor became king. NIV 38 When Shaul died, Baal-Hanan son of Acbor succeeded him as king. NLT 39 When Baal-hanan died, Hadad became king and ruled from the city of Pau. Hadad's wife was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred and granddaughter of Me-zahab. NIV 39 When Baal-Hanan son of Acbor died, Hadad succeeded him as king. His city was named Pau, and his wife's name was Mehetabel daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab. NLT 40 These are the leaders of the clans of Esau, who lived in the places named for them: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, NIV 40 These were the chiefs descended from Esau, by name, according to their clans and regions: Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, NLT 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, NIV 41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, NLT 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, NIV 42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, NLT 43 Magdiel, and Iram. These are the names of the clans of Esau, the ancestor of the Edomites, each clan giving its name to the area it occupied. NIV 43 Magdiel and Iram. These were the chiefs of Edom, according to their settlements in the land they occupied. This was Esau the father of the Edomites.
