Genesis 45

GW 1 Joseph could no longer control his emotions in front of everyone who was standing around him, so he cried out, "Have everyone leave me!" No one else was there when Joseph told his brothers who he was. NIV 1 Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, "Have everyone leave my presence!" So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers. GW 2 He cried so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh's household heard about it. NIV 2 And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh's household heard about it. GW 3 Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph! Is my father still alive?" His brothers could not answer him because they were afraid of him. NIV 3 Joseph said to his brothers, "I am Joseph! Is my father still living?" But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence. GW 4 "Please come closer to me," Joseph said to his brothers. When they did so, he said, "I am Joseph, the brother you sold into slavery in Egypt! NIV 4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, "Come close to me." When they had done so, he said, "I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! GW 5 Now, don't be sad or angry with yourselves that you sold me. God sent me ahead of you to save lives. NIV 5 And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. GW 6 The famine has been in the land for two years. There will be five more years without plowing or harvesting. NIV 6 For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will not be plowing and reaping. GW 7 God sent me ahead of you to make sure that you would have descendants on the earth and to save your lives in an amazing way. NIV 7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance. GW 8 It wasn't you who sent me here, but God. He has made me [like] a father to Pharaoh, lord over his entire household, and ruler of Egypt. NIV 8 "So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt. GW 9 "Hurry back to my father, and say to him, 'This is what your son Joseph says, "God has made me lord of Egypt. Come here to me right away! NIV 9 Now hurry back to my father and say to him, 'This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don't delay. GW 10 Live in the land of Goshen, where you will be near me. Live there with your children and your grandchildren, as well as your flocks, your herds, and everything you have. NIV 10 You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me--you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have. GW 11 I will provide for you in Egypt, since there will be five more years of famine. Then you, your family, and all who belong to you won't lose everything."' NIV 11 I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.' GW 12 "You and my brother Benjamin can see for yourselves that I am the one who is speaking to you. NIV 12 "You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it is really I who am speaking to you. GW 13 Tell my father how greatly honored I am in Egypt and about everything you have seen. Hurry and bring my father here!" NIV 13 Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly." GW 14 He threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and cried with Benjamin, who was crying on his shoulder. NIV 14 Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping. GW 15 He kissed all his brothers and cried with them. After that his brothers talked with him. NIV 15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him. GW 16 When Pharaoh's household heard the news that Joseph's brothers had come, Pharaoh and his officials were pleased. NIV 16 When the news reached Pharaoh's palace that Joseph's brothers had come, Pharaoh and all his officials were pleased. GW 17 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Say to your brothers, 'Load up your animals, and go back to Canaan. NIV 17 Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Tell your brothers, 'Do this: Load your animals and return to the land of Canaan, GW 18 Take your father and your families, and come to me. I will give you the best land in Egypt. Then you can enjoy the best food in the land.' NIV 18 and bring your father and your families back to me. I will give you the best of the land of Egypt and you can enjoy the fat of the land.' GW 19 "Give them this order: 'Take wagons with you from Egypt for your children and your wives. Bring your father, and come back. NIV 19 "You are also directed to tell them, 'Do this: Take some carts from Egypt for your children and your wives, and get your father and come. GW 20 Don't worry about your belongings because the best of everything in Egypt is yours.'" NIV 20 Never mind about your belongings, because the best of all Egypt will be yours.' " GW 21 Israel's sons did as they were told. Joseph gave them wagons and supplies for their trip as Pharaoh had ordered. NIV 21 So the sons of Israel did this. Joseph gave them carts, as Pharaoh had commanded, and he also gave them provisions for their journey. GW 22 He gave each of them a change of clothes, but he gave Benjamin three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of clothes. NIV 22 To each of them he gave new clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels of silver and five sets of clothes. GW 23 He sent his father ten male donkeys carrying Egypt's best products and ten female donkeys carrying grain, bread, and food for his father's trip. NIV 23 And this is what he sent to his father: ten donkeys loaded with the best things of Egypt, and ten female donkeys loaded with grain and bread and other provisions for his journey. GW 24 So Joseph sent his brothers on their way. As they were leaving, he said to them, "Don't quarrel on your way back!" NIV 24 Then he sent his brothers away, and as they were leaving he said to them, "Don't quarrel on the way!" GW 25 So they left Egypt and came to their father Jacob in Canaan. NIV 25 So they went up out of Egypt and came to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan. GW 26 They told him, "Joseph is still alive! Yes, he is ruler of Egypt." Jacob was stunned and didn't believe them. NIV 26 They told him, "Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all Egypt." Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them. GW 27 Yet, when they told their father everything Joseph had said to them and he saw the wagons Joseph had sent to bring him back, his spirits were lifted. NIV 27 But when they told him everything Joseph had said to them, and when he saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father Jacob revived. GW 28 "You have convinced me!" Israel said. "My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die." NIV 28 And Israel said, "I'm convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die."
