Genesis 46

LEB 1 So Israel journeyed with all that he had, and he came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac. NIV 1 So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. LEB 2 And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I [am]." NIV 2 And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am," he replied. LEB 3 Then he said, "I [am] the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. NIV 3 "I am God, the God of your father," he said. "Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. LEB 4 I myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I myself will also bring you up. And Joseph will place his hand over your eyes." NIV 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph's own hand will close your eyes." LEB 5 So Jacob arose from Beersheba. And the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob, and their little ones and their wives in the wagons Pharaoh had sent to transport him. NIV 5 Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel's sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. LEB 6 And they took their livestock and their possessions that they had acquired in the land of Canaan. And they came to Egypt, Jacob and all his offspring with him, NIV 6 They also took with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan, and Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt. LEB 7 his sons and his sons' sons with him, his daughters and his daughters' daughters with him, into Egypt. NIV 7 He took with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters--all his offspring. LEB 8 Now these [are] the names of the sons of Israel, who came into Egypt, Jacob and his sons. Reuben, the firstborn of Jacob NIV 8 These are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob. LEB 18 There [are] the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to Leah his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob--sixteen persons. NIV 18 These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah--sixteen in all. LEB 19 The sons of Rachel, Jacob's wife: Joseph and Benjamin. NIV 19 The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. LEB 20 And Ephraim and Manasseh, whom Asenath, daughter of Potiphera, priest of On bore to him, were born to Joseph in the land of Egypt. NIV 20 In Egypt, Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. LEB 21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard. NIV 21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard. LEB 22 These [are] the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob--fourteen persons in all. NIV 22 These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob--fourteen in all. LEB 23 The sons of Dan: Hushim. NIV 23 The son of Dan: Hushim. LEB 24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem. NIV 24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahziel, Guni, Jezer and Shillem. LEB 25 These [are] the sons of Bilhah whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and she bore these to Jacob--seven persons in all. NIV 25 These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel--seven in all. LEB 26 All the persons belonging to Jacob who came to Egypt {who were his descendants}, not including the wives of the sons of Jacob [were] sixty-six persons in all. NIV 26 All those who went to Egypt with Jacob--those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons' wives--numbered sixty-six persons. LEB 27 And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt [were] two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came to Egypt [were] seventy. NIV 27 With the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob's family, which went to Egypt, were seventy in all. LEB 28 He had sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to appear before him in Goshen. And they came to the land of Goshen. NIV 28 Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen, LEB 29 Then Joseph harnessed his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen. He presented himself to him and fell upon his neck and wept upon his neck a long time. NIV 29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time. LEB 30 Then Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die since I have seen your face, for you are still alive." NIV 30 Israel said to Joseph, "Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive." LEB 31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and report to Pharaoh, and I will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household who [were] in the land of Canaan have come to me. NIV 31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me. LEB 32 And the men [are] shepherds, for they are men of livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their cattle and all that they have.' NIV 32 The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.' LEB 33 And it shall be [that] when Pharaoh calls you he will say, 'What [is] your occupation?' NIV 33 When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, 'What is your occupation?' LEB 34 Then you must say, 'You servants [are] men of livestock from our childhood until now, both we and also our ancestors,' so that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd [is] a detestable thing to Egyptians." NIV 34 you should answer, 'Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.' Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians."
