Genesis 46

NAS 1 So Israel set out with all that he had, and came to Beersheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. NIV 1 So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. NAS 2 God spoke to Israel in visions of the night and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here I am." NIV 2 And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, "Jacob! Jacob!" "Here I am," he replied. NAS 3 He said, "I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you a great nation there. NIV 3 "I am God, the God of your father," he said. "Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. NAS 4 "I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph will close your eyes." NIV 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph's own hand will close your eyes." NAS 5 Then Jacob arose from Beersheba; and the sons of Israel carried their father Jacob and their little ones and their wives in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him. NIV 5 Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel's sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. NAS 6 They took their livestock and their property, which they had acquired in the land of Canaan, and came to Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him: NIV 6 They also took with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan, and Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt. NAS 7 his sons and his grandsons with him, his daughters and his granddaughters , and all his descendants he brought with him to Egypt. NIV 7 He took with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters--all his offspring. NAS 8 Now these are the names of the sons of Israel, Jacob and his sons, who went to Egypt: Reuben, Jacob's firstborn. NIV 8 These are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt: Reuben the firstborn of Jacob. NAS 9 The sons of Reuben: Hanoch and Pallu and Hezron and Carmi. NIV 9 The sons of Reuben: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron and Carmi. NAS 10 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. NIV 10 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. NAS 11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. NIV 11 The sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. NAS 12 The sons of Judah: Er and Onan and Shelah and Perez and Zerah (but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan ). And the sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. NIV 12 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez and Zerah (but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan). The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul. NAS 13 The sons of Issachar: Tola and Puvvah and Iob and Shimron. NIV 13 The sons of Issachar: Tola, Puah, Jashub and Shimron. NAS 14 The sons of Zebulun: Sered and Elon and Jahleel. NIV 14 The sons of Zebulun: Sered, Elon and Jahleel. NAS 15 These are the sons of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob in Paddan-aram, with his daughter Dinah; all his sons and his daughters numbered thirty-three . Their sister was Serah. The sons of Beriah: Heber and Malkiel. NAS 18 These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah; and she bore to Jacob these sixteen persons. NIV 18 These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah--sixteen in all. NAS 19 The sons of Jacob's wife Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. NAS 20 Now to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him. NIV 20 In Egypt, Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On. NAS 21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela and Becher and Ashbel, Gera and Naaman, Ehi and Rosh, Muppim and Huppim and Ard. NIV 21 The sons of Benjamin: Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard. NAS 22 These are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; there were fourteen persons in all. NIV 22 These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob--fourteen in all. NAS 23 The sons of Dan: Hushim. NIV 23 The son of Dan: Hushim. NAS 24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel and Guni and Jezer and Shillem. NIV 24 The sons of Naphtali: Jahziel, Guni, Jezer and Shillem. NAS 25 These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel, and she bore these to Jacob; there were seven persons in all. NIV 25 These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel--seven in all. NAS 26 All the persons belonging to Jacob, who came to Egypt, his direct descendants, not including the wives of Jacob's sons, were sixty-six persons in all, NIV 26 All those who went to Egypt with Jacob--those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons' wives--numbered sixty-six persons. NAS 27 and the sons of Joseph, who were born to him in Egypt were two; all the persons of the house of Jacob, who came to Egypt, were seventy. NIV 27 With the two sons who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob's family, which went to Egypt, were seventy in all. NAS 28 Now he sent Judah before him to Joseph, to point out the way before him to Goshen; and they came into the land of Goshen. NIV 28 Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen, NAS 29 Joseph prepared his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; as soon as he appeared before him, he fell on his neck and wept on his neck a long time. NIV 29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father and wept for a long time. NAS 30 Then Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face, that you are still alive." NIV 30 Israel said to Joseph, "Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive." NAS 31 Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me; NIV 31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, 'My brothers and my father's household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me. NAS 32 and the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of livestock; and they have brought their flocks and their herds and all that they have.' NIV 32 The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.' NAS 33 "When Pharaoh calls you and says, 'What is your occupation?' NIV 33 When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, 'What is your occupation?' NAS 34 you shall say, 'Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,' that you may live in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is loathsome to the Egyptians." NIV 34 you should answer, 'Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.' Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians."
