LEB 1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. NIV 1 Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. LEB 2 And fear of you and dread of you shall be upon every animal of the earth, and on every bird of heaven, [and] on everything that moves upon the ground, and on all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they shall be given. NIV 2 The fear and dread of you will fall upon all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air, upon every creature that moves along the ground, and upon all the fish of the sea; they are given into your hands. LEB 3 Every moving thing that lives shall be for you as food. As [I gave] the green plants to you, I have [now] given you everything. NIV 3 Everything that lives and moves will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. LEB 4 Only you shall not eat {raw flesh with blood in it}. NIV 4 "But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. LEB 5 And {your lifeblood} I will require; from {every animal} I will require it. And from the hand of humankind, from the hand of [each] man to his brother I will require the life of humankind. NIV 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man. LEB 6 "[As for] the one shedding the blood of humankind, by humankind his blood shall be shed, for God made humankind in his own image. NIV 6 "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man. LEB 7 "And you, be fruitful and multiply, swarm on the earth and multiply in it." NIV 7 As for you, be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it." LEB 8 And God said to Noah and to his sons with him, NIV 8 Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: LEB 9 "As for me, behold, I am establishing my covenant with you and with your seed after you, NIV 9 "I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you LEB 10 and with every living creature that [is] with you--the birds, the animals, and every animal of the earth with you, from all [that] came out of the ark to all the animals of the earth. NIV 10 and with every living creature that was with you--the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you--every living creature on earth. LEB 11 I am establishing my covenant with you, that never again will all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, nor will there ever be a flood that destroys the earth." NIV 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth." LEB 12 And God said, "This [is] the sign of the covenant that I am making between me and you, and between every living creature that [is] with you for future generations. NIV 12 And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: LEB 13 My bow I have set in the clouds, and it shall be for a sign of [the] covenant between me and between the earth. NIV 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. LEB 14 And when I make clouds appear over the earth the bow shall be seen in the clouds. NIV 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, LEB 15 Then I will remember my covenant that [is] between me and you, and between every living creature, with all flesh. And the waters of a flood will never again {cause the destruction} of all flesh. NIV 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. LEB 16 The bow shall be in the clouds, and I will see it, so as to remember [the] everlasting covenant between God and between every living creature, with all flesh that [is] upon the earth." NIV 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." LEB 17 And God said to Noah, "This [is] the sign of the covenant which I am establishing between me and all flesh that [is] upon the earth. NIV 17 So God said to Noah, "This is the sign of the covenant I have established between me and all life on the earth." LEB 18 Now the sons of Noah who came out of the ark [were] Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham [was] the father of Canaan.) NIV 18 The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham and Japheth. (Ham was the father of Canaan.) LEB 19 These three [were] the sons of Noah, and from these {the whole earth was populated}. NIV 19 These were the three sons of Noah, and from them came the people who were scattered over the earth. LEB 20 And Noah began [to be] a man of the ground, and he planted a vineyard. NIV 20 Noah, a man of the soil, proceeded to plant a vineyard. LEB 21 And he drank some of the wine and became drunk, and he exposed himself in the midst of his tent. NIV 21 When he drank some of its wine, he became drunk and lay uncovered inside his tent. LEB 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and he told his two brothers outside. NIV 22 Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers outside. LEB 23 Then Shem and Japheth took a garment, and the two of them put [it] on [their] shoulders and, walking backward, they covered the nakedness of their father. And their faces [were turned] backward, so that they did not see the nakedness of their father. NIV 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment and laid it across their shoulders; then they walked in backward and covered their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so that they would not see their father's nakedness. LEB 24 Then Noah awoke from his drunkenness, and he knew what his youngest son had done to him. NIV 24 When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had done to him, LEB 25 And he said, "Cursed [be] Canaan, a slave of slaves he shall be to his brothers." NIV 25 he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers." LEB 26 Then he said, "Blessed [be] Yahweh, the God of Shem, and let Canaan be a slave to them. NIV 26 He also said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem. LEB 27 May God make space for Japheth, and let him dwell in the tents of Shem, and let Canaan be a slave for him." NIV 27 May God extend the territory of Japheth; may Japheth live in the tents of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave." LEB 28 And Noah lived three hundred and fifty years after the flood. NIV 28 After the flood Noah lived 350 years. LEB 29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years, and he died. NIV 29 Altogether, Noah lived 950 years, and then he died.
