Hebrews 10

WEB 1 For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. NIV 1 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming--not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. WEB 2 Or else wouldn't they have ceased to be offered, because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins? NIV 2 If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. WEB 3 But in those sacrifices there is a memory made of sins year by year. NIV 3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, WEB 4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. NIV 4 because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. WEB 5 Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, "Sacrifice and offering you didn't desire, But a body did you prepare for me; NIV 5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; WEB 6 In whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you had no pleasure. NIV 6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. WEB 7 Then I said, 'Behold, I have come (In the scroll of the book it is written of me) To do your will, God.'" NIV 7 Then I said, 'Here I am--it is written about me in the scroll-- I have come to do your will, O God.' " WEB 8 Saying above, "Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn't desire, neither had pleasure in them" (those which are offered according to the law), NIV 8 First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). WEB 9 then has he said, "Behold, I have come to do your will." He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, NIV 9 Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. WEB 10 by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. NIV 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. WEB 11 Every priest indeed stands day by day ministering and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, NIV 11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. WEB 12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; NIV 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. WEB 13 henceforth expecting until his enemies to be made the footstool of his feet. NIV 13 Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, WEB 14 For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are sanctified. NIV 14 because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. WEB 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after he has said, NIV 15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says: WEB 16 "This is the covenant that I will make with them: 'After those days,' says the Lord, 'I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;'" then, NIV 16 "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds." WEB 17 "I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more." NIV 17 Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more." WEB 18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. NIV 18 And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin. WEB 19 Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, NIV 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, WEB 20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; NIV 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, WEB 21 and having a great priest over the house of God; NIV 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, WEB 22 let us draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water, NIV 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. WEB 23 let us hold fast the confession of our hope unyieldingly. For he who promised is faithful. NIV 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. WEB 24 Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, NIV 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. WEB 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as you see the Day approaching. NIV 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. WEB 26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, NIV 26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, WEB 27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries. NIV 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. WEB 28 A man who has set at nothing Moses' law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. NIV 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. WEB 29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? NIV 29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? WEB 30 For we know him who said, "Vengeance belongs to me," says the Lord, "I will repay." Again, "The Lord will judge his people." NIV 30 For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people." WEB 31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. NIV 31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. WEB 32 But remember the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings; NIV 32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering. WEB 33 partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions; and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so. NIV 33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. WEB 34 For you both had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens. NIV 34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. WEB 35 Therefore don't throw away your boldness, which has a great reward. NIV 35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. WEB 36 For you need patience, so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise. NIV 36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. WEB 37 "For yet a very little while, He who comes will come, and will not wait. NIV 37 For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. WEB 38 But the righteous will live by faith. If he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him." NIV 38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." WEB 39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul. NIV 39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
