Hebrews 12:18-24

RSV 18 For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire, and darkness, and gloom, and a tempest, NIV 18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; RSV 19 and the sound of a trumpet, and a voice whose words made the hearers entreat that no further messages be spoken to them. NIV 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, RSV 20 For they could not endure the order that was given, "If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned." NIV 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: "If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned." RSV 21 Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, "I tremble with fear." NIV 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, "I am trembling with fear." RSV 22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, NIV 22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, RSV 23 and to the assembly of the first-born who are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is God of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, NIV 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, RSV 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks more graciously than the blood of Abel. NIV 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
