Hebrews 13

ASV 1 Let love of the brethren continue. NIV 1 Keep on loving each other as brothers. ASV 2 Forget not to show love unto strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. NIV 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. ASV 3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; them that are illtreated, as being yourselves also in the body. NIV 3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering. ASV 4 [Let] marriage [be] had in honor among all, and [let] the bed [be] undefiled: for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. NIV 4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. ASV 5 Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee. NIV 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." ASV 6 So that with good courage we say, The Lord is my helper; I will not fear: What shall man do unto me? NIV 6 So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" ASV 7 Remember them that had the rule over you, men that spake unto you the word of God; and considering the issue of their life, imitate their faith. NIV 7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. ASV 8 Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday and to-day, [yea] and for ever. NIV 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. ASV 9 Be not carried away by divers and strange teachings: for it is good that the heart be established by grace; not by meats, wherein they that occupied themselves were not profited. NIV 9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them. ASV 10 We have an altar, whereof they have no right to eat that serve the tabernacle. NIV 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat. ASV 11 For the bodies of those beasts whose blood is brought into the holy place by the high priest [as an offering] for sin, are burned without the camp. NIV 11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. ASV 12 Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people through his own blood, suffered without the gate. NIV 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. ASV 13 Let us therefore go forth unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. NIV 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. ASV 14 For we have not here an abiding city, but we seek after [the city] which is to come. NIV 14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come. ASV 15 Through him then let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of lips which make confession to his name. NIV 15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that confess his name. ASV 16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased. NIV 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. ASV 17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit [to them]: for they watch in behalf of your souls, as they that shall give account; that they may do this with joy, and not with grief: for this [were] unprofitable for you. NIV 17 Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. ASV 18 Pray for us: for we are persuaded that we have a good conscience, desiring to live honorably in all things. NIV 18 Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. ASV 19 And I exhort [you] the more exceedingly to do this, that I may be restored to you the sooner. NIV 19 I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon. ASV 20 Now the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, [even] our Lord Jesus, NIV 20 May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, ASV 21 make you perfect in every good thing to do his will, working in us that which is well-pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom [be] the glory for ever and ever. Amen. NIV 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. ASV 22 But I exhort you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation, for I have written unto you in few words. NIV 22 Brothers, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for I have written you only a short letter. ASV 23 Know ye that our brother Timothy hath been set at liberty; with whom, if he come shortly, I will see you. NIV 23 I want you to know that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you. ASV 24 Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you. NIV 24 Greet all your leaders and all God's people. Those from Italy send you their greetings. ASV 25 Grace be with you all. Amen. NIV 25 Grace be with you all.
