Hebrews 3

LEB 1 Therefore, holy brothers, sharers in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, NIV 1 Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess. LEB 2 who was faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses also [was] in his household. NIV 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house. LEB 3 For this one is considered worthy of greater glory than Moses, inasmuch as the one who builds it has greater honor than the house. NIV 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. LEB 4 For every house is built by someone, but the one who built all [things] [is] God. NIV 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. LEB 5 And Moses [was] faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony to the things that would be spoken, NIV 5 Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house, testifying to what would be said in the future. LEB 6 but Christ [was faithful] as a son over his house, whose house we are, if we hold fast to our confidence and the hope we can be proud of. NIV 6 But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast. LEB 7 Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says, "Today, if you hear his voice, NIV 7 So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear his voice, LEB 8 do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness, NIV 8 do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, LEB 9 where your fathers tested [me] by trial and saw my works NIV 9 where your fathers tested and tried me and for forty years saw what I did. LEB 10 [for] forty years. Therefore I was angry with this generation, and I said, 'They always go astray in their heart, and they do not know my ways.' NIV 10 That is why I was angry with that generation, and I said, 'Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.' LEB 11 As I swore in my anger, '{They will never enter} into my rest.'" NIV 11 So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never enter my rest.' " LEB 12 Watch out, brothers, lest there be in some of you an evil, unbelieving heart, [with the result that you] fall away from the living God. NIV 12 See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. LEB 13 But encourage one another {day by day}, as long as it is called "today," so that {none of you become hardened} by the deception of sin. NIV 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. LEB 14 For we have become partners of Christ, if indeed we hold fast the beginning of [our] commitment steadfast until the end, NIV 14 We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. LEB 15 {while it is said}, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion."<note: A quotation from Ps 95:7b-8> NIV 15 As has just been said: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion." LEB 16 For who, [when they] heard [it], were disobedient? Surely [it was] not all who went out from Egypt through Moses? NIV 16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? LEB 17 And with whom was he angry [for] forty years? [Was it] not with those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness? NIV 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? LEB 18 And to whom did he swear [they would] not enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient? NIV 18 And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed ? LEB 19 And [so] we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. NIV 19 So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.
