Isaiah 2

MSG 1 The Message Isaiah got regarding Judah and Jerusalem: NIV 1 This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem: MSG 2 There's a day coming when the mountain of God's House Will be The Mountain - solid, towering over all mountains. All nations will river toward it, people from all over set out for it. NIV 2 In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. MSG 3 They'll say, "Come, let's climb God's Mountain, go to the House of the God of Jacob. He'll show us the way he works so we can live the way we're made." Zion's the source of the revelation. God's Message comes from Jerusalem. NIV 3 Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. MSG 4 He'll settle things fairly between nations. He'll make things right between many peoples. They'll turn their swords into shovels, their spears into hoes. No more will nation fight nation; they won't play war anymore. NIV 4 He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. MSG 5 Come, family of Jacob, let's live in the light of God. NIV 5 Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD. MSG 6 God, you've walked out on your family Jacob because their world is full of hokey religion, Philistine witchcraft, and pagan hocus-pocus, NIV 6 You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob. They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination like the Philistines and clasp hands with pagans. MSG 7 a world rolling in wealth, Stuffed with things, no end to its machines and gadgets, NIV 7 Their land is full of silver and gold; there is no end to their treasures. Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots. MSG 8 And gods - gods of all sorts and sizes. These people make their own gods and worship what they make. NIV 8 Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made. MSG 9 A degenerate race, facedown in the gutter. Don't bother with them! They're not worth forgiving! Pretentious Egos Brought Down to Earth NIV 9 So man will be brought low and mankind humbled-- do not forgive them. MSG 10 Head for the hills, hide in the caves From the terror of God, from his dazzling presence. NIV 10 Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty! MSG 11 People with a big head are headed for a fall, pretentious egos brought down a peg. It's God alone at front-and-center on the Day we're talking about, NIV 11 The eyes of the arrogant man will be humbled and the pride of men brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day. MSG 12 The Day that God-of-the-Angel-Armies is matched against all big-talking rivals, against all swaggering big names; NIV 12 The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled), MSG 13 Against all giant sequoias hugely towering, and against the expansive chestnut; NIV 13 for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan, MSG 14 Against Kilimanjaro and Annapurna, against the ranges of Alps and Andes; NIV 14 for all the towering mountains and all the high hills, MSG 15 Against every soaring skyscraper, against all proud obelisks and statues; NIV 15 for every lofty tower and every fortified wall, MSG 16 Against ocean-going luxury liners, against elegant three-masted schooners. NIV 16 for every trading ship and every stately vessel. MSG 17 The swelled big heads will be punctured bladders, the pretentious egos brought down to earth, Leaving God alone at front-and-center on the Day we're talking about. NIV 17 The arrogance of man will be brought low and the pride of men humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, MSG 18 And all those sticks and stones dressed up to look like gods will be gone for good. NIV 18 and the idols will totally disappear. MSG 19 Clamber into caves in the cliffs, duck into any hole you can find. Hide from the terror of God, from his dazzling presence, When he assumes his full stature on earth, towering and terrifying. NIV 19 Men will flee to caves in the rocks and to holes in the ground from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth. MSG 20 On that Day men and women will take the sticks and stones They've decked out in gold and silver to look like gods and then worshiped, And they will dump them in any ditch or gully, NIV 20 In that day men will throw away to the rodents and bats their idols of silver and idols of gold, which they made to worship. MSG 21 Then run for rock caves and cliff hideouts To hide from the terror of God, from his dazzling presence, When he assumes his full stature on earth, towering and terrifying. NIV 21 They will flee to caverns in the rocks and to the overhanging crags from dread of the LORD and the splendor of his majesty, when he rises to shake the earth.
