Isaiah 26

CEB 1 On that day, this song will be sung in the land of Judah: Ours is a strong city! God makes salvation its walls and ramparts. NIV 1 In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts. CEB 2 Open the gates and let a righteous nation enter, a nation that keeps faith. NIV 2 Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. CEB 3 Those with sound thoughts you will keep in peace, in peace because they trust in you. NIV 3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. CEB 4 Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD is a rock for all ages. NIV 4 Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal. CEB 5 He has thrown down those living on high, and he will level the lofty town, leveling it down to the earth; he will bring it down to dust. CEB 8 In the path of your justice, LORD, we wait for you; with all our being, we long for your name and your acclaim. NIV 8 Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. CEB 9 At night I long for you with my whole being; my spirit within me watches for you. When your judgments are at work in the earth, those living in the world learn righteousness. NIV 9 My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness. CEB 10 When the wicked are favored, they don't learn righteousness; even among those who do right they do wrong, and they fail to see the LORD's majesty. NIV 10 Though grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and regard not the majesty of the LORD. CEB 11 LORD, your hand is lifted up, but they don't see. Let them see and shrink back because of your zeal for your people; your burning anger that consumes your enemies. NIV 11 O LORD, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them. CEB 12 LORD, grant us peace, because all that we have done has been your doing. NIV 12 LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us. CEB 13 LORD our God, other masters besides you have ruled us, but we will profess your name alone. NIV 13 O LORD, our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but your name alone do we honor. CEB 14 The dead don't live; ghosts don't rise. Indeed, you have punished and destroyed them, and abolished all memory of them. NIV 14 They are now dead, they live no more; those departed spirits do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin; you wiped out all memory of them. CEB 15 You've enlarged the nation, LORD. You've enlarged the nation; you are glorified. You've expanded all the land's boundaries. NIV 15 You have enlarged the nation, O LORD; you have enlarged the nation. You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders of the land. CEB 16 LORD, in distress they sought you out; they poured out prayers to you when you disciplined them. NIV 16 LORD, they came to you in their distress; when you disciplined them, they could barely whisper a prayer. CEB 17 As a pregnant woman close to childbirth is in labor pains, crying out in her pangs, so were we because of you, LORD. NIV 17 As a woman with child and about to give birth writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, O LORD. CEB 18 We were pregnant, we writhed, but we gave birth to wind. We have achieved no victories on earth; the inhabitants of the earth never fall. NIV 18 We were with child, we writhed in pain, but we gave birth to wind. We have not brought salvation to the earth; we have not given birth to people of the world. CEB 19 Your dead will live, their corpses will rise, and those who dwell in the dust will shout for joy. Your shadow is a shadow of light, but you will bring down the ghosts into the underworld. NIV 19 But your dead will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust, wake up and shout for joy. Your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead. CEB 20 Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut your doors behind you. Take cover, for in a little while the fury will be over. NIV 20 Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until his wrath has passed by. CEB 21 Look! The LORD is going out from his place to bring the iniquity of the ruler of the earth down upon him. The earth will uncover its blood and will conceal its slain no longer. NIV 21 See, the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer.
