Isaiah 32

NRS 1 See, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice. NIV 1 See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice. NRS 2 Each will be like a hiding place from the wind, a covert from the tempest, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land. NIV 2 Each man will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land. NRS 3 Then the eyes of those who have sight will not be closed, and the ears of those who have hearing will listen. NIV 3 Then the eyes of those who see will no longer be closed, and the ears of those who hear will listen. NRS 4 The minds of the rash will have good judgment, and the tongues of stammerers will speak readily and distinctly. NIV 4 The mind of the rash will know and understand, and the stammering tongue will be fluent and clear. NRS 5 A fool will no longer be called noble, nor a villain said to be honorable. NIV 5 No longer will the fool be called noble nor the scoundrel be highly respected. NRS 6 For fools speak folly, and their minds plot iniquity: to practice ungodliness, to utter error concerning the Lord, to leave the craving of the hungry unsatisfied, and to deprive the thirsty of drink. NIV 6 For the fool speaks folly, his mind is busy with evil: He practices ungodliness and spreads error concerning the LORD; the hungry he leaves empty and from the thirsty he withholds water. NRS 7 The villainies of villains are evil; they devise wicked devices to ruin the poor with lying words, even when the plea of the needy is right. NIV 7 The scoundrel's methods are wicked, he makes up evil schemes to destroy the poor with lies, even when the plea of the needy is just. NRS 8 But those who are noble plan noble things, and by noble things they stand. NIV 8 But the noble man makes noble plans, and by noble deeds he stands. NRS 9 Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice; you complacent daughters, listen to my speech. NIV 9 You women who are so complacent, rise up and listen to me; you daughters who feel secure, hear what I have to say! NRS 10 In little more than a year you will shudder, you complacent ones; for the vintage will fail, the fruit harvest will not come. NIV 10 In little more than a year you who feel secure will tremble; the grape harvest will fail, and the harvest of fruit will not come. NRS 11 Tremble, you women who are at ease, shudder, you complacent ones; strip, and make yourselves bare, and put sackcloth on your loins. NIV 11 Tremble, you complacent women; shudder, you daughters who feel secure! Strip off your clothes, put sackcloth around your waists. NRS 12 Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine, NIV 12 Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vines NRS 13 for the soil of my people growing up in thorns and briers; yes, for all the joyous houses in the jubilant city. NIV 13 and for the land of my people, a land overgrown with thorns and briers-- yes, mourn for all houses of merriment and for this city of revelry. NRS 14 For the palace will be forsaken, the populous city deserted; the hill and the watchtower will become dens forever, the joy of wild asses, a pasture for flocks; NIV 14 The fortress will be abandoned, the noisy city deserted; citadel and watchtower will become a wasteland forever, the delight of donkeys, a pasture for flocks, NRS 15 until a spirit from on high is poured out on us, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is deemed a forest. NIV 15 till the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest. NRS 16 Then justice will dwell in the wilderness, and righteousness abide in the fruitful field. NIV 16 Justice will dwell in the desert and righteousness live in the fertile field. NRS 17 The effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. NIV 17 The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. NRS 18 My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. NIV 18 My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. NRS 19 The forest will disappear completely, and the city will be utterly laid low. NIV 19 Though hail flattens the forest and the city is leveled completely, NRS 20 Happy will you be who sow beside every stream, who let the ox and the donkey range freely. NIV 20 how blessed you will be, sowing your seed by every stream, and letting your cattle and donkeys range free.
