Isaiah 43

CEB 1 But now, says the LORD— the one who created you, Jacob, the one who formed you, Israel: Don't fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. NIV 1 But now, this is what the LORD says-- he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. CEB 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; when through the rivers, they won't sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you won't be scorched and flame won't burn you. NIV 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. CEB 3 I am the LORD your God, the holy one of Israel, your savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place. NIV 3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead. CEB 4 Because you are precious in my eyes, you are honored, and I love you. I give people in your place, and nations in exchange for your life. NIV 4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life. CEB 5 Don't fear, I am with you. From the east I'll bring your children; from the west I'll gather you. NIV 5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. CEB 6 I'll say to the north, "Give them back!" and to the south, "Don't detain them." Bring my sons from far away, and my daughters from the end of the earth, NIV 6 I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth-- CEB 7 everyone who is called by my name and whom I created for my glory, whom I have formed and made. NIV 7 everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." CEB 8 Bring out the blind people who have eyes, the deaf ones who have ears. NIV 8 Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf. CEB 9 All the nations are gathered together; the peoples are assembled. Which of them announced this? Who predicted to us the past events? Let them bring their witnesses as a defense; let them hear and say, "It's true!" NIV 9 All the nations gather together and the peoples assemble. Which of them foretold this and proclaimed to us the former things? Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were right, so that others may hear and say, "It is true." CEB 10 You are my witnesses, says the LORD, my servant, whom I chose, so that you would know and believe me and understand that I am the one. Before me no god was formed; after me there has been no other. NIV 10 "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me. CEB 11 I, I am the LORD, and there is no savior besides me. NIV 11 I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior. CEB 12 I announced, I saved, I proclaimed, not some stranger among you. You are my witnesses, says the LORD, and I am God. NIV 12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed-- I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God. CEB 13 From the dawn of time, I am the one. No one can escape my power. I act, and who can undo it? NIV 13 Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who can reverse it?" CEB 14 The LORD your redeemer, the holy one of Israel, says, For your sake, I have sent an army to Babylon, and brought down all the bars, turning the Chaldeans' singing into a lament. NIV 14 This is what the LORD says-- your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians, in the ships in which they took pride. CEB 15 I am the LORD, your holy one, Israel's creator, your king! NIV 15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, Israel's Creator, your King." CEB 16 The LORD says—who makes a way in the sea and a path in the mighty waters, NIV 16 This is what the LORD says-- he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, CEB 17 who brings out chariot and horse, army and battalion; they will lie down together and will not rise; they will be extinguished, extinguished like a wick. NIV 17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: CEB 18 Don't remember the prior things; don't ponder ancient history. NIV 18 "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. CEB 19 Look! I'm doing a new thing; now it sprouts up; don't you recognize it? I'm making a way in the desert, paths in the wilderness. NIV 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. CEB 20 The beasts of the field, the jackals and ostriches, will honor me, because I have put water in the desert and streams in the wilderness to give water to my people, my chosen ones, NIV 20 The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, CEB 21 this people whom I formed for myself, who will recount my praise. NIV 21 the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise. CEB 22 But you didn't call out to me, Jacob; you were tired of me, Israel. NIV 22 "Yet you have not called upon me, O Jacob, you have not wearied yourselves for me, O Israel. CEB 23 You didn't bring me lambs for your entirely burned offering; you didn't honor me with your sacrifices. I didn't make you worship with offerings; I didn't weary you with frankincense. NIV 23 You have not brought me sheep for burnt offerings, nor honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with grain offerings nor wearied you with demands for incense. CEB 24 You didn't buy spices for me with your money, or satisfy me with the fat of your sacrifices. Instead, you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your evil actions. NIV 24 You have not bought any fragrant calamus for me, or lavished on me the fat of your sacrifices. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your offenses. CEB 25 I, I am the one who wipes out your rebellious behavior for my sake. I won't remember your sin. NIV 25 "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. CEB 26 Summon me, and let's go to trial together; you tell your story so that you may be vindicated! NIV 26 Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence. CEB 27 Your first ancestor sinned, and your officials rebelled against me. NIV 27 Your first father sinned; your spokesmen rebelled against me. CEB 28 So I made the holy officials impure, handed over Jacob to destruction and Israel to abuse. NIV 28 So I will disgrace the dignitaries of your temple, and I will consign Jacob to destruction and Israel to scorn.
