James 1:12-22

ESV 12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. NIV 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. ESV 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God," for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. NIV 13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; ESV 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. NIV 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. ESV 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. NIV 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. ESV 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. NIV 16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. ESV 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. NIV 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. ESV 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. NIV 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. ESV 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; NIV 19 My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, ESV 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. NIV 20 for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. ESV 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. NIV 21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. ESV 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. NIV 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
