Jeremiah 18:1-10

NRS 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: NIV 1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: NRS 2 "Come, go down to the potter's house, and there I will let you hear my words." NIV 2 "Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you my message." NRS 3 So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. NIV 3 So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. NRS 4 The vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as seemed good to him. NIV 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. NRS 5 Then the word of the Lord came to me: NIV 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: NRS 6 Can I not do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done? says the Lord. Just like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. NIV 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. NRS 7 At one moment I may declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, NIV 7 If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, NRS 8 but if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will change my mind about the disaster that I intended to bring on it. NIV 8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. NRS 9 And at another moment I may declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it, NIV 9 And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, NRS 10 but if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice, then I will change my mind about the good that I had intended to do to it. NIV 10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.
