Jeremiah 18:1-10

RSV 1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: NIV 1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: RSV 2 "Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will let you hear my words." NIV 2 "Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you my message." RSV 3 So I went down to the potter's house, and there he was working at his wheel. NIV 3 So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. RSV 4 And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. NIV 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. RSV 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: NIV 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me: RSV 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter has done? says the LORD. Behold, like the clay in the potter's hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. NIV 6 "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the LORD. "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. RSV 7 If at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom, that I will pluck up and break down and destroy it, NIV 7 If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, RSV 8 and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turns from its evil, I will repent of the evil that I intended to do to it. NIV 8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. RSV 9 And if at any time I declare concerning a nation or a kingdom that I will build and plant it, NIV 9 And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, RSV 10 and if it does evil in my sight, not listening to my voice, then I will repent of the good which I had intended to do to it. NIV 10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.
