Jeremiah 25

TMB 1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah (that was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), NIV 1 The word came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, which was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. TMB 2 which Jeremiah the prophet spoke unto all the people of Judah and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying: NIV 2 So Jeremiah the prophet said to all the people of Judah and to all those living in Jerusalem: TMB 3 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even unto this day (that is, the three and twentieth year), the word of the LORD hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened. NIV 3 For twenty-three years--from the thirteenth year of Josiah son of Amon king of Judah until this very day--the word of the LORD has come to me and I have spoken to you again and again, but you have not listened. TMB 4 And the LORD hath sent unto you all His servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear. NIV 4 And though the LORD has sent all his servants the prophets to you again and again, you have not listened or paid any attention. TMB 5 They said, "Turn ye again now every one from his evil way and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever. NIV 5 They said, "Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and your evil practices, and you can stay in the land the LORD gave to you and your fathers for ever and ever. TMB 6 And go not after other gods to serve them and to worship them, and provoke Me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. NIV 6 Do not follow other gods to serve and worship them; do not provoke me to anger with what your hands have made. Then I will not harm you." TMB 7 Yet ye have not hearkened unto Me," saith the LORD, "that ye might provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt." NIV 7 "But you did not listen to me," declares the LORD, "and you have provoked me with what your hands have made, and you have brought harm to yourselves." TMB 8 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts: "Because ye have not heard My words, NIV 8 Therefore the LORD Almighty says this: "Because you have not listened to my words, TMB 9 behold, I will send and take all the families of the north," saith the LORD, "and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them and make them an astonishment and a hissing and perpetual desolations. NIV 9 I will summon all the peoples of the north and my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon," declares the LORD, "and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy them and make them an object of horror and scorn, and an everlasting ruin. TMB 10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the candle. NIV 10 I will banish from them the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, the sound of millstones and the light of the lamp. TMB 11 And this whole land shall be a desolation and an astonishment, and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years. NIV 11 This whole country will become a desolate wasteland, and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years. TMB 12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation," saith the LORD, "for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations. NIV 12 "But when the seventy years are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon and his nation, the land of the Babylonians, for their guilt," declares the LORD, "and will make it desolate forever. TMB 13 And I will bring upon that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations. NIV 13 I will bring upon that land all the things I have spoken against it, all that are written in this book and prophesied by Jeremiah against all the nations. TMB 14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves by them also; and I will recompense them according to their deeds and according to the works of their own hands." NIV 14 They themselves will be enslaved by many nations and great kings; I will repay them according to their deeds and the work of their hands." TMB 15 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel unto me: "Take the wine cup of this fury at My hand, and cause all the nations to whom I send thee to drink it. NIV 15 This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: "Take from my hand this cup filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it. TMB 16 And they shall drink and be moved, and be mad because of the sword that I will send among them." NIV 16 When they drink it, they will stagger and go mad because of the sword I will send among them." TMB 17 Then took I the cup at the LORD'S hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the LORD had sent me, NIV 17 So I took the cup from the LORD's hand and made all the nations to whom he sent me drink it: TMB 18 to wit: Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing and a curse, as it is this day; NIV 18 Jerusalem and the towns of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a ruin and an object of horror and scorn and cursing, as they are today; TMB 19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people; NIV 19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his attendants, his officials and all his people, TMB 20 and all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod; NIV 20 and all the foreign people there; all the kings of Uz; all the kings of the Philistines (those of Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the people left at Ashdod); TMB 21 Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon; NIV 21 Edom, Moab and Ammon; TMB 22 and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea; NIV 22 all the kings of Tyre and Sidon; the kings of the coastlands across the sea; TMB 23 Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners; NIV 23 Dedan, Tema, Buz and all who are in distant places; TMB 24 and all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert; NIV 24 all the kings of Arabia and all the kings of the foreign people who live in the desert; TMB 25 and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes; NIV 25 all the kings of Zimri, Elam and Media; TMB 26 and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world which are upon the face of the earth; and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them. NIV 26 and all the kings of the north, near and far, one after the other--all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshach will drink it too. TMB 27 "Therefore thou shalt say unto them, `Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Drink ye and be drunken, and spew and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.' NIV 27 "Then tell them, 'This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk and vomit, and fall to rise no more because of the sword I will send among you.' TMB 28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, `Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Ye shall certainly drink. NIV 28 But if they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, tell them, 'This is what the LORD Almighty says: You must drink it! TMB 29 For lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by My name. And should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished, for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the LORD of hosts.' NIV 29 See, I am beginning to bring disaster on the city that bears my Name, and will you indeed go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword upon all who live on the earth, declares the LORD Almighty.' TMB 30 "Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them: "`The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter His voice from His holy habitation; He shall mightily roar upon His habitation; He shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. NIV 30 "Now prophesy all these words against them and say to them: " 'The LORD will roar from on high; he will thunder from his holy dwelling and roar mightily against his land. He will shout like those who tread the grapes, shout against all who live on the earth. TMB 31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth, for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations. He will plead with all flesh; He will give them that are wicked to the sword,'" saith the LORD. NIV 31 The tumult will resound to the ends of the earth, for the LORD will bring charges against the nations; he will bring judgment on all mankind and put the wicked to the sword,' " declares the LORD. TMB 32 Thus saith the LORD of hosts: "Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth." NIV 32 This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Look! Disaster is spreading from nation to nation; a mighty storm is rising from the ends of the earth." TMB 33 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth. They shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground. NIV 33 At that time those slain by the LORD will be everywhere--from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered up or buried, but will be like refuse lying on the ground. TMB 34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye leaders of the flock; for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished, and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel. NIV 34 Weep and wail, you shepherds; roll in the dust, you leaders of the flock. For your time to be slaughtered has come; you will fall and be shattered like fine pottery. TMB 35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the leaders of the flock to escape. NIV 35 The shepherds will have nowhere to flee, the leaders of the flock no place to escape. TMB 36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and a howling of the leaders of the flock shall be heard; for the LORD hath despoiled their pasture. NIV 36 Hear the cry of the shepherds, the wailing of the leaders of the flock, for the LORD is destroying their pasture. TMB 37 And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the LORD. NIV 37 The peaceful meadows will be laid waste because of the fierce anger of the LORD. TMB 38 He hath forsaken His covert as the lion; for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the Oppressor, and because of His fierce anger. NIV 38 Like a lion he will leave his lair, and their land will become desolate because of the sword of the oppressor and because of the LORD's fierce anger.
