1 Mensaje acerca de Amón<br />Este es el mensaje que se dio sobre los amonitas. Esto dice el Señor<br />:<br />«¿No hay descendientes de Israel<br />para que hereden la tierra de Gad?<br />¿Por qué ustedes, adoradores de Moloc,<br />habitan en sus ciudades?

2 En los días futuros —dice el Señor<br />—,<br />haré sonar el grito de guerra contra la ciudad de Rabá.<br />Se convertirá en un montón de escombros<br />y las ciudades vecinas serán quemadas.<br />Entonces Israel volverá a tomar<br />la tierra que ustedes le quitaron —dice el Señor<br />—.

3 Clama, oh Hesbón,<br />porque la ciudad de Hai quedó destruida.<br />¡Lloren, oh habitantes de Rabá!<br />Pónganse ropa de luto.<br />Lloren y giman, escondidos detrás de los arbustos,<br />porque su dios Moloc será llevado a tierras lejanas<br />junto con sus sacerdotes y funcionarios.

4 Estás orgullosa de tus fértiles valles, hija rebelde,<br />pero pronto se convertirán en ruinas.<br />Confiaste en tus riquezas<br />y pensaste que nadie podría hacerte daño.

5 ¡Pero mira! Yo traeré terror sobre ti<br />—dice el Señor, el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales—.<br />Tus vecinos te expulsarán de tu tierra<br />y nadie ayudará a tus desterrados cuando huyan.

6 Sin embargo, yo restableceré el bienestar de los amonitas<br />en los días venideros.<br />Yo, el Señor<br />, he hablado».

7 Mensajes acerca de Edom<br />Este es el mensaje que se dio acerca de Edom. Esto dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales:<br />«¿No hay sabiduría en Temán?<br />¿No queda nadie que pueda dar sabios consejos?

8 ¡Dense la vuelta y huyan!<br />¡Escóndanse en cuevas profundas, habitantes de Dedán!<br />Pues cuando yo traiga desastre sobre Edom,<br />¡a ti también te castigaré!

9 Los que cosechan uvas<br />siempre dejan algunas para los pobres.<br />Si de noche vinieran los ladrones<br />ni ellos se llevarían todo;

10 pero yo despojaré la tierra de Edom<br />y no habrá lugar dónde esconderse.<br />Sus hijos, hermanos y vecinos<br />serán todos destruidos,<br />y Edom no existirá más.

11 Pero protegeré a los huérfanos que queden entre ustedes.<br />También sus viudas pueden contar con mi ayuda».

12 Así dice el Señor<br />: «Si el inocente debe sufrir, ¡cuanto más tú! ¡No quedarás sin castigo! ¡Debes beber de esta copa de juicio!

13 Pues juré por mi propio nombre —dice el Señor<br />—, que Bosra se convertirá en objeto de horror y en un montón de ruinas; se burlarán de ella y la maldecirán. Todas sus ciudades y aldeas quedarán desoladas para siempre».

14 He oído un mensaje del Señor<br />.<br />Se envió un embajador a las naciones para decir:<br />«¡Formen una coalición contra Edom,<br />y prepárense para la batalla!».

15 El Señor<br /> le dice a Edom:<br />«Te haré pequeña entre las naciones;<br />todos te despreciarán.

16 Has sido engañado por tu propio orgullo<br />y por el temor que inspirabas en los demás.<br />Vives en una fortaleza de piedra<br />y controlas las alturas de las montañas.<br />Pero aun si haces tu nido con las águilas en las cumbres,<br />te haré caer estrepitosamente»,<br />dice el Señor<br />.

17 «Edom será objeto de espanto;<br />todo el que pase por ese lugar quedará horrorizado<br />y dará un grito de asombro por la destrucción que verá allí.

18 Será como la destrucción de Sodoma, Gomorra<br />y sus ciudades vecinas —dice el Señor<br />—.<br />Nadie vivirá allí;<br />nadie la habitará.

19 Vendré como un león que sale de los matorrales del Jordán<br />y atacaré a las ovejas en los pastos.<br />Echaré a Edom de su tierra,<br />y nombraré al líder que yo escoja.<br />Pues, ¿quién es como yo y quién puede desafiarme?<br />¿Qué gobernante puede oponerse a mi voluntad?».

20 Escuchen los planes que tiene el Señor<br /> contra Edom<br />y contra la gente de Temán.<br />Aun sus hijos pequeños serán arrastrados como ovejas<br />y sus casas serán destruidas.

21 La tierra temblará con el ruido de la caída de Edom<br />y su grito de desesperación se oirá hasta el mar Rojo.

22 ¡Mira! El enemigo cae en picada como un águila,<br />desplegando sus alas sobre Bosra.<br />Aun los guerreros más poderosos estarán en agonía<br />como mujer en trabajo de parto.

23 Mensaje acerca de Damasco<br />Este es el mensaje que se dio acerca de Damasco. Esto dice el Señor<br />:<br />«El temor se apoderó de las ciudades de Hamat y Arfad<br />porque oyeron los anuncios de su propia destrucción.<br />El corazón de ellos está agitado<br />como el mar cuando hay una tormenta furiosa.

24 Damasco se volvió débil,<br />y toda la gente trató de huir.<br />El miedo, la angustia y el dolor se han apoderado de ella<br />como a una mujer en trabajo de parto.

25 ¡Esa ciudad famosa, ciudad de alegría,<br />será abandonada!

26 Sus jóvenes caerán en las calles y morirán.<br />Todos sus soldados serán matados<br />—dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales—,

27 y prenderé fuego a las murallas de Damasco<br />que consumirá los palacios de Ben-adad».

28 Mensaje acerca de Cedar y Hazor<br />Este es el mensaje que se dio acerca de Cedar y los reinos de Hazor, que fueron atacados por Nabucodonosor,<br /> rey de Babilonia. Esto dice el Señor<br />:<br />«¡Avancen contra Cedar!<br />¡Destruyan a los guerreros del oriente!

29 Tomarán sus rebaños y carpas,<br />y sus pertenencias y camellos les serán quitados.<br />Se escucharán voces de pánico en todas partes:<br />“¡Somos atemorizados a cada paso!”.

30 ¡Corran y salven sus vidas! —dice el Señor<br />—.<br />Gente de Hazor, escóndanse en cuevas profundas,<br />porque Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, ha conspirado contra ustedes<br />y se prepara para destruirlos.

31 »Levántense y ataquen a esta nación tan confiada<br />—dice el Señor<br />—.<br />Su gente vive aislada en el desierto<br />sin murallas ni puertas.

32 Todos sus camellos y demás animales serán de ustedes.<br />A este pueblo que vive en lugares remotos<br />lo esparciré a los cuatro vientos.<br />Traeré sobre ellos calamidad<br />de todas partes —dice el Señor<br />—.

33 Hazor será habitada por chacales<br />y quedará desolada para siempre.<br />Nadie vivirá allí;<br />nadie la habitará».

34 Mensaje acerca de Elam<br />El profeta Jeremías recibió del Señor<br /> este mensaje acerca de Elam al comienzo del reinado de Sedequías, rey de Judá.

35 Esto dice el Señor<br /> de los Ejércitos Celestiales:<br />«Destruiré a los arqueros de Elam,<br />lo mejor de su ejército.

36 Traeré enemigos de todas partes<br />y esparciré a la gente de Elam a los cuatro vientos.<br />Serán desterrados a países de todo el mundo.

37 Yo mismo iré con los enemigos de Elam para destrozarla.<br />En mi ira feroz traeré gran desastre<br />sobre el pueblo de Elam —dice el Señor<br />—.<br />Sus enemigos lo perseguirán con espada<br />hasta que yo lo destruya por completo.

1 Concerning the Ammonites: This is what the LORD says: “Has Israel no sons? Has Israel no heir? Why then has Molek taken possession of Gad? Why do his people live in its towns?

2 But the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will sound the battle cry against Rabbah of the Ammonites; it will become a mound of ruins, and its surrounding villages will be set on fire. Then Israel will drive out those who drove her out,” says the LORD.

3 “Wail, Heshbon, for Ai is destroyed! Cry out, you inhabitants of Rabbah! Put on sackcloth and mourn; rush here and there inside the walls, for Molek will go into exile, together with his priests and officials.

4 Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? Unfaithful Daughter Ammon, you trust in your riches and say, ‘Who will attack me?’

5 I will bring terror on you from all those around you,” declares the Lord, the LORD Almighty. “Every one of you will be driven away, and no one will gather the fugitives.

6 “Yet afterward, I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites,” declares the LORD.

7 Concerning Edom: This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Is there no longer wisdom in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom decayed?

8 Turn and flee, hide in deep caves, you who live in Dedan, for I will bring disaster on Esau at the time when I punish him.

9 If grape pickers came to you, would they not leave a few grapes? If thieves came during the night, would they not steal only as much as they wanted?

10 But I will strip Esau bare; I will uncover his hiding places, so that he cannot conceal himself. His armed men are destroyed, also his allies and neighbors, so there is no one to say,

11 ‘Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive. Your widows too can depend on me.’ ”

12 This is what the LORD says: “If those who do not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, why should you go unpunished? You will not go unpunished, but must drink it.

13 I swear by myself,” declares the LORD, “that Bozrah will become a ruin and a curse, an object of horror and reproach; and all its towns will be in ruins forever.”

14 I have heard a message from the LORD; an envoy was sent to the nations to say, “Assemble yourselves to attack it! Rise up for battle!”

15 “Now I will make you small among the nations, despised by mankind.

16 The terror you inspire and the pride of your heart have deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks, who occupy the heights of the hill. Though you build your nest as high as the eagle’s, from there I will bring you down,” declares the LORD.

17 “Edom will become an object of horror; all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds.

18 As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns,” says the LORD, “so no one will live there; no people will dwell in it.

19 “Like a lion coming up from Jordan’s thickets to a rich pastureland, I will chase Edom from its land in an instant. Who is the chosen one I will appoint for this? Who is like me and who can challenge me? And what shepherd can stand against me?”

20 Therefore, hear what the LORD has planned against Edom, what he has purposed against those who live in Teman: The young of the flock will be dragged away; their pasture will be appalled at their fate.

21 At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble; their cry will resound to the Red Sea.

22 Look! An eagle will soar and swoop down, spreading its wings over Bozrah. In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman in labor.

23 Concerning Damascus: “Hamath and Arpad are dismayed, for they have heard bad news. They are disheartened, troubled like the restless sea.

24 Damascus has become feeble, she has turned to flee and panic has gripped her; anguish and pain have seized her, pain like that of a woman in labor.

25 Why has the city of renown not been abandoned, the town in which I delight?

26 Surely, her young men will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced in that day,” declares the LORD Almighty.

27 “I will set fire to the walls of Damascus; it will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.”

28 Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked: This is what the LORD says: “Arise, and attack Kedar and destroy the people of the East.

29 Their tents and their flocks will be taken; their shelters will be carried off with all their goods and camels. People will shout to them, ‘Terror on every side!’

30 “Flee quickly away! Stay in deep caves, you who live in Hazor,” declares the LORD. “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has plotted against you; he has devised a plan against you.

31 “Arise and attack a nation at ease, which lives in confidence,” declares the LORD, “a nation that has neither gates nor bars; its people live far from danger.

32 Their camels will become plunder, and their large herds will be spoils of war. I will scatter to the winds those who are in distant placesand will bring disaster on them from every side,” declares the LORD.

33 “Hazor will become a haunt of jackals, a desolate place forever. No one will live there; no people will dwell in it.”

34 This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah:

35 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “See, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might.

36 I will bring against Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven; I will scatter them to the four winds, and there will not be a nation where Elam’s exiles do not go.

37 I will shatter Elam before their foes, before those who want to kill them; I will bring disaster on them, even my fierce anger,” declares the LORD. “I will pursue them with the sword until I have made an end of them.

38 I will set my throne in Elam and destroy her king and officials,” declares the LORD.

39 “Yet I will restore the fortunes of Elam in days to come,” declares the LORD.
