NCV 1 Then Job answered: NIV 1 Then Job replied: NCV 2 "I have heard many things like these. You are all painful comforters! NIV 2 "I have heard many things like these; miserable comforters are you all! NCV 3 Will your long-winded speeches never end? What makes you keep on arguing? NIV 3 Will your long-winded speeches never end? What ails you that you keep on arguing? NCV 4 I also could speak as you do if you were in my place. I could make great speeches against you and shake my head at you. NIV 4 I also could speak like you, if you were in my place; I could make fine speeches against you and shake my head at you. NCV 5 But, instead, I would encourage you, and my words would bring you relief. NIV 5 But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief. NCV 6 "Even if I speak, my pain is not less, and if I don't speak, it still does not go away. NIV 6 "Yet if I speak, my pain is not relieved; and if I refrain, it does not go away. NCV 7 God, you have surely taken away my strength and destroyed my whole family. NIV 7 Surely, O God, you have worn me out; you have devastated my entire household. NCV 8 You have made me thin and weak, and this shows I have done wrong. NIV 8 You have bound me--and it has become a witness; my gauntness rises up and testifies against me. NCV 9 God attacks me and tears me with anger; he grinds his teeth at me; my enemy stares at me with his angry eyes. NIV 9 God assails me and tears me in his anger and gnashes his teeth at me; my opponent fastens on me his piercing eyes. NCV 10 People open their mouths to make fun of me and hit my cheeks to insult me. They join together against me. NIV 10 Men open their mouths to jeer at me; they strike my cheek in scorn and unite together against me. NCV 11 God has turned me over to evil people and has handed me over to the wicked. NIV 11 God has turned me over to evil men and thrown me into the clutches of the wicked. NCV 12 Everything was fine with me, but God broke me into pieces; he held me by the neck and crushed me. NIV 16 My face is red with weeping, deep shadows ring my eyes; NCV 17 Yet my hands have never done anything cruel, and my prayer is pure. NIV 18 "O earth, do not cover my blood; may my cry never be laid to rest! NCV 19 Even now I have one who speaks for me in heaven; the one who is on my side is high above. NIV 19 Even now my witness is in heaven; my advocate is on high. NCV 20 The one who speaks for me is my friend. My eyes pour out tears to God. NIV 20 My intercessor is my friend as my eyes pour out tears to God; NCV 21 He begs God on behalf of a human as a person begs for his friend. NIV 21 on behalf of a man he pleads with God as a man pleads for his friend. NCV 22 "Only a few years will pass before I go on the journey of no return.
