Job 17

NCV 1 My spirit is broken; the days of my life are almost gone. The grave is waiting for me. NIV 1 My spirit is broken, my days are cut short, the grave awaits me. NCV 2 Those who laugh at me surround me; I watch them insult me. NIV 2 Surely mockers surround me; my eyes must dwell on their hostility. NCV 3 "God, make me a promise. No one will make a pledge for me. NIV 3 "Give me, O God, the pledge you demand. Who else will put up security for me? NCV 4 You have closed their minds to understanding. Do not let them win over me. NIV 4 You have closed their minds to understanding; therefore you will not let them triumph. NCV 5 A person might speak against his friends for money, but if he does, the eyes of his children go blind. NIV 5 If a man denounces his friends for reward, the eyes of his children will fail. NCV 6 "God has made my name a curse word; people spit in my face. NIV 6 "God has made me a byword to everyone, a man in whose face people spit. NCV 7 My sight has grown weak because of my sadness, and my body is as thin as a shadow. NIV 7 My eyes have grown dim with grief; my whole frame is but a shadow. NCV 8 Honest people are upset about this; innocent people are upset with those who do wrong. NIV 8 Upright men are appalled at this; the innocent are aroused against the ungodly. NCV 9 But those who do right will continue to do right, and those whose hands are not dirty with sin will grow stronger. NIV 9 Nevertheless, the righteous will hold to their ways, and those with clean hands will grow stronger. NCV 10 "But, all of you, come and try again! I do not find a wise person among you. NIV 10 "But come on, all of you, try again! I will not find a wise man among you. NCV 11 My days are gone, and my plans have been destroyed, along with the desires of my heart. NIV 11 My days have passed, my plans are shattered, and so are the desires of my heart. NCV 12 These men think night is day; when it is dark, they say, 'Light is near.' NIV 12 These men turn night into day; in the face of darkness they say, 'Light is near.' NCV 13 If the only home I hope for is the grave, if I spread out my bed in darkness, NIV 13 If the only home I hope for is the grave, if I spread out my bed in darkness, NCV 14 if I say to the grave, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'You are my mother' or 'You are my sister,' NIV 14 if I say to corruption, 'You are my father,' and to the worm, 'My mother' or 'My sister,' NCV 15 where, then, is my hope? Who can see any hope for me? NIV 15 where then is my hope? Who can see any hope for me? NCV 16 Will hope go down to the gates of death? Will we go down together into the dust?" NIV 16 Will it go down to the gates of death ? Will we descend together into the dust?"
