Job 40

CSB 1 The Lord answered Job: NIV 1 The LORD said to Job: CSB 2 Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct [Him]? Let him who argues with God give an answer. NIV 2 "Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!" CSB 3 Then Job answered the Lord: NIV 3 Then Job answered the LORD: CSB 4 I am so insignificant. How can I answer You? I place my hand over my mouth. NIV 4 "I am unworthy--how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth. CSB 5 I have spoken once, and I will not reply; twice, but [now] I can add nothing. NIV 5 I spoke once, but I have no answer-- twice, but I will say no more." CSB 6 Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind: NIV 6 Then the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm: CSB 7 Get ready to answer Me like a man; When I question you, you will inform Me. NIV 7 "Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. CSB 8 Would you really challenge My justice? Would you declare Me guilty to justify yourself? NIV 8 "Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself ? CSB 9 Do you have an arm like God's? Can you thunder with a voice like His? NIV 9 Do you have an arm like God's, and can your voice thunder like his? CSB 10 Adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory. NIV 10 Then adorn yourself with glory and splendor, and clothe yourself in honor and majesty. CSB 11 Unleash your raging anger; look on every proud person and humiliate him. NIV 11 Unleash the fury of your wrath, look at every proud man and bring him low, CSB 12 Look on every proud person and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand. NIV 12 look at every proud man and humble him, crush the wicked where they stand. CSB 13 Hide them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave. NIV 13 Bury them all in the dust together; shroud their faces in the grave. CSB 14 Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can deliver you. NIV 14 Then I myself will admit to you that your own right hand can save you. CSB 15 Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox. NIV 15 "Look at the behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. CSB 16 Look at the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly. NIV 16 What strength he has in his loins, what power in the muscles of his belly! CSB 17 He stiffens his tail like a cedar tree; the tendons of his thighs are woven firmly together. NIV 17 His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are close-knit. CSB 18 His bones are bronze tubes; his limbs are like iron rods. NIV 18 His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like rods of iron. CSB 19 He is the foremost of God's works; [only] his Maker can draw the sword against him. NIV 19 He ranks first among the works of God, yet his Maker can approach him with his sword. CSB 20 The hills yield food for him, while all [sorts of] wild animals play there. NIV 20 The hills bring him their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby. CSB 21 He lies under the lotus plants, hiding in the protection of marshy reeds. NIV 21 Under the lotus plants he lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh. CSB 22 Lotus plants cover him with their shade; the willows by the brook surround him. NIV 22 The lotuses conceal him in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround him. CSB 23 Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains confident, even if the Jordan surges up to his mouth. NIV 23 When the river rages, he is not alarmed; he is secure, though the Jordan should surge against his mouth. CSB 24 Can anyone capture him while he looks on, or pierce his nose with snares? NIV 24 Can anyone capture him by the eyes, or trap him and pierce his nose?
