John 10

NAS 1 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. NIV 1 "I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. NAS 2 "But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. NIV 2 The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. NAS 3 "To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. NIV 3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. NAS 4 "When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. NIV 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. NAS 5 "A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers." NIV 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice." NAS 6 This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them. NIV 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but they did not understand what he was telling them. NAS 7 So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. NIV 7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. NAS 8 "All who came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. NIV 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. NAS 9 "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. NIV 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. NAS 10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. NIV 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. NAS 11 "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. NIV 11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. NAS 12 "He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. NIV 12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. NAS 13 "He flees because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. NIV 13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. NAS 14 "I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, NIV 14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me-- NAS 15 even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. NIV 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father--and I lay down my life for the sheep. NAS 16 "I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd. NIV 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. NAS 17 "For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again. NIV 17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life--only to take it up again. NAS 18 "No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father." NIV 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father." NAS 19 A division occurred again among the Jews because of these words. NIV 19 At these words the Jews were again divided. NAS 20 Many of them were saying, "He has a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?" NIV 20 Many of them said, "He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?" NAS 21 Others were saying, "These are not the sayings of one demon-possessed. A demon cannot open the eyes of the blind, can he?" NIV 21 But others said, "These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?" NAS 22 At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; NIV 22 Then came the Feast of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, NAS 23 it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon. NIV 23 and Jesus was in the temple area walking in Solomon's Colonnade. NAS 24 The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, "How long will You keep us in suspense ? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly." NIV 24 The Jews gathered around him, saying, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly." NAS 25 Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father's name, these testify of Me. NIV 25 Jesus answered, "I did tell you, but you do not believe. The miracles I do in my Father's name speak for me, NAS 26 "But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. NIV 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. NAS 27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; NIV 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. NAS 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. NIV 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. NAS 29 "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. NIV 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. NAS 30 "I and the Father are one." NIV 30 I and the Father are one." NAS 31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. NIV 31 Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, NAS 32 Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?" NIV 32 but Jesus said to them, "I have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?" NAS 33 The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God." NIV 33 "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God." NAS 34 Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your Law, 'I SAID, YOU ARE GODS '? NIV 34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods' ? NAS 35 "If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken ), NIV 35 If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came--and the Scripture cannot be broken-- NAS 36 o you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God '? NIV 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'? NAS 37 "If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; NIV 37 Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does. NAS 38 but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father." NIV 38 But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father." NAS 39 Therefore they were seeking again to seize Him, and He eluded their grasp. NIV 39 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp. NAS 40 And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He was staying there. NIV 40 Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. Here he stayed NAS 41 Many came to Him and were saying, "While John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this man was true." NIV 41 and many people came to him. They said, "Though John never performed a miraculous sign, all that John said about this man was true." NAS 42 Many believed in Him there. NIV 42 And in that place many believed in Jesus.
