John 12:37-50

ESV 37 Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, NIV 37 Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him. ESV 38 so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "Lord, who has believed what he heard from us, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" NIV 38 This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: "Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" ESV 39 Therefore they could not believe. For again Isaiah said, NIV 39 For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: ESV 40 "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, lest they see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn, and I would heal them." NIV 40 "He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn--and I would heal them." ESV 41 Isaiah said these things because he saw his glory and spoke of him. NIV 41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him. ESV 42 Nevertheless, many even of the authorities believed in him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue; NIV 42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; ESV 43 for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God. NIV 43 for they loved praise from men more than praise from God. ESV 44 And Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. NIV 44 Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. ESV 45 And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. NIV 45 When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me. ESV 46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. NIV 46 I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness. ESV 47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. NIV 47 "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it. ESV 48 The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. NIV 48 There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day. ESV 49 For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment--what to say and what to speak. NIV 49 For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it. ESV 50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me." NIV 50 I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."
