John 15

LEB 1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. NIV 1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. LEB 2 Every branch that does not bear fruit in me, he removes it, and every [branch] that bears fruit, he prunes it in order that it may bear more fruit. NIV 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. LEB 3 You are already clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. NIV 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. LEB 4 Remain in me, and I in you. Just as the branch is not able to bear fruit from itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither [can] you, unless you remain in me. NIV 4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. LEB 5 "I am the vine; you [are] the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him--this one bears much fruit, for apart from me you are not able to do anything. NIV 5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. LEB 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is thrown out as a branch, and dries up, and they gather them and throw [them] into the fire, and they are burned. NIV 6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. LEB 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want and it will be done for you. NIV 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. LEB 8 My Father is glorified by this: that you bear much fruit, and prove to be my disciples. NIV 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. LEB 9 "Just as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love. NIV 9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. LEB 10 If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love. NIV 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. LEB 11 I have spoken these [things] to you in order that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be made complete. NIV 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. LEB 12 This is my commandment: that you love one another just as I have loved you. NIV 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. LEB 13 No one has greater love than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends. NIV 13 Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. LEB 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. NIV 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. LEB 15 No longer do I call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything that I have heard from my Father I have revealed to you. NIV 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. LEB 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and your fruit should remain, in order that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you. NIV 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. LEB 17 These [things] I command you: that you love one another. NIV 17 This is my command: Love each other. LEB 18 If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before [it hated] you. NIV 18 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. LEB 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this [reason] the world hates you. NIV 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. LEB 20 Remember the word that I said to you: 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also. NIV 20 Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. LEB 21 But they will do all these [things] to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me. NIV 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me. LEB 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin. But now they do not have a valid excuse for their sin. NIV 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. LEB 23 The one who hates me hates my Father also. NIV 23 He who hates me hates my Father as well. LEB 24 If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not have sin. But now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father. NIV 24 If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. LEB 25 But [this happened] so that the word that is written in their law would be fulfilled, 'They hated me without a reason.' NIV 25 But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.' LEB 26 "When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father--the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father--that one will testify about me. NIV 26 "When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me. LEB 27 And you also will testify, because you have been with me from the beginning. NIV 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.
