John 1:1-18

CEB 1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. NIV 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. CEB 2 The Word was with God in the beginning. NIV 2 He was with God in the beginning. CEB 3 Everything came into being through the Word, and without the Word nothing came into being. What came into being NIV 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. CEB 4 through the Word was life, and the life was the light for all people. NIV 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. CEB 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesn't extinguish the light. NIV 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. CEB 6 A man named John was sent from God. NIV 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. CEB 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning the light, so that through him everyone would believe in the light. NIV 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. CEB 8 He himself wasn't the light, but his mission was to testify concerning the light. NIV 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. CEB 9 The true light that shines on all people was coming into the world. CEB 10 The light was in the world, and the world came into being through the light, but the world didn't recognize the light. NIV 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. CEB 11 The light came to his own people, and his own people didn't welcome him. NIV 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. CEB 12 But those who did welcome him, those who believed in his name, he authorized to become God's children, NIV 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- CEB 13 born not from blood nor from human desire or passion, but born from God. NIV 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. CEB 14 The Word became flesh and made his home among us. We have seen his glory, glory like that of a father's only son, full of grace and truth. NIV 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. CEB 15 John testified about him, crying out, "This is the one of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is greater than me because he existed before me.'" NIV 15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' " CEB 16 From his fullness we have all received grace upon grace; NIV 16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. CEB 17 as the Law was given through Moses, so grace and truth came into being through Jesus Christ. NIV 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. CEB 18 No one has ever seen God. God the only Son, who is at the Father's side, has made God known. NIV 18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
