John 1:4-14

ASV 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. NIV 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. ASV 5 And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not. NIV 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. ASV 6 There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John. NIV 6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. ASV 7 The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him. NIV 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. ASV 8 He was not the light, but [came] that he might bear witness of the light. NIV 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. ASV 9 There was the true light, [even the light] which lighteth every man, coming into the world. NIV 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. ASV 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not. NIV 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. ASV 11 He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not. NIV 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. ASV 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: NIV 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God-- ASV 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. NIV 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. ASV 14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth. NIV 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
